OnePlus 6T could get the vital update it needs to beat its Android rivals

OnePlus 6T is the next-generation flagship from the Chinese firm and will introduce a new way to unlock the device.

OnePlus 6T will place its fingerprint scanner underneath the display, allow for a futuristic method of accessibility.

In the build-up to the new Android flagship’s unveiling, OnePlus has promoted the new feature with the slogan “unlock the speed”.

The company added: “Use your phone, your way. We’ve reinvented the fingerprint sensor to give you a smarter and more natural way to access the things that matter most.”

And now the company has confirmed the OnePlus 6T will arrive with a “whole new UI” that could give the device a major advantage over its rivals.

OnePlus explained: “We’re working on a ton of exciting stuff for the OnePlus 6T. We’ve got a whole new UI coming up that you will have to experience for yourself to really understand.

“Our goal was to express the OnePlus design language in our UI, making this the most distinct and intuitive version of OxygenOS yet.”

The firm also noted a number of improvements will arrive for the gesture navigations that can be triggered on the hardware.

OnePlus insisted swiping up from the bottom of the screen two access the application window things will feel “more natural”.

The Chinese tech giant went on: “We’ve made Navigation Gestures smoother overall. Whenever you swipe up in an app, the application window will follow your finger, making for a more natural experience.

“It’s also faster in two ways: with a quick flick from the bottom of the screen towards the right of your screen, you can change between two recently used apps.”

Despite insisting a number of upgrades are coming, OnePlus was keen to insist it does not plan to diverge from its ethos of adding to Google’s stock Android system rather than “ruining” it.

OnePlus continued: “Our users are always excited about new Android version updates.

“They know that OnePlus is the kind of company that embraces what’s great about Pure Android and simply adds to it, rather than ruining the base Android experience; hence the excitement.”

Most notably, changes to the camera on the OnePlus 6T were detailed with the Chinese company declaring owners will be able to “take even better pictures”.

However, the company did not detail exactly how snapping photos on the OnePlus 6T will be improved over its predecessors.

OnePlus said: “We’ve also put a lot of work into improving the camera behind the scenes, so you can expect to take even better pictures.”

The OnePlus 6T is expected to come with a dual-camera system, just like the OnePlus 6.

While the Chinese firm has offered a tantalising glimpse into its next device, it will not be long before fans get a detailed look at the OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6T will be unveiled on October 30 at a hardware event in New York City.

Proceedings will take place at 3pm GMT.
