Ahead of OnePlus 6T release there’s big Android update news for OnePlus 6 owners

The all-new OnePlus 6T will be unveiled on October 30 at an event in New York with the device looking set to include numerous improvements over its OnePlus 6 predecessor.

Although full specs are yet to be confirmed, we do know the refreshed device will feature a fingerprint scanner embedded under the display and looks set to have a much smaller notch at the top of the screen.

One other piece of news that has been confirmed is the removal of the headphone port with Carl Pei, one of OnePlus’ co-founders, revealing to TechRadar that, “By removing the jack we’ve freed up more space, allowing us to put more new technology into the product.”

The OnePlus 6T will be a major announcement for the Chinese smartphone firm but that doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about the current OnePlus 6.

It’s just been announced that, from today, all owners of this current flagship will be able to update their phone to the latest version of Android 9 Pie.

In a statement, OnePlus confirmed: “We have great news for UK-based OnePlus 6 users as from Tuesday 16th October, the much-anticipated Android 9 Pie update will start rolling out across the UK!

“OnePlus is one of the first manufacturers to update to the newest Google software, ensuring its users have access to the best version yet.”

Android 9 not only brings some new features to the device but will also mean it will have all the latest security updates being released by Google.

Along with improved security, one of the most notable additions is Adaptive Battery that uses machine learning to analyse what applications a user takes advantage of most in order to optimally deliver power.

Such a feature should extend the battery life of all smartphones that adopt the software.

The news of the OnePlus 6 update comes as .

Sony Xperia XZ3 marked the company’s first device to release with Google’s latest and greatest software, but now both the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact have been granted Android 9 Pie upgrades.

The Xperia Blog first reported the two products were receiving the software and declared the file size for the update is 1,059MB.

It added the upgrade includes recent Android security improvements in addition to a new camera application.
