Man Utd news: Injury boost as stars arrive for training ahead of Chelsea clash – Trio seen

Manchester United are set to welcome several first-team players back from injury when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (12.30pm).

Jose Mourinho’s side kick-off the weekend’s Premier League action following the international break, with the Red Devils looking to build on their 3-2 win over Newcastle last time out.

The pressure continues to mount on the United boss despite the comeback victory, although Mourinho should be boosted by the return of several key men against the Blues.

A trimmed-down squad of stars not away on international duty was spotted arriving for training at Carrington this morning, with Jesse Lingard one of the players photographed.

The 25-year-old midfielder has missed United’s past two league matches due to a groin injury initially sustained during the World Cup.

Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic were also among the depleted set of players, having both withdrawn from international duty with knocks.

The duo are expected to be fit for the game against Mourinho’s former side this weekend, while both Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo are also back in training but were not pictured this morning.

Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were among the first-team players who have not been picked for their countries, while Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata and Matteo Darmian were also seen.

Scott McTominay is also doubtful after withdrawing from the Scotland team with an unspecified knock last week, but United have no further injury issues.

The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League after suffering a woeful start to the season that saw defeats to Brighton, Spurs and West Ham.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are joint-top of the table and remain undefeated after eight matches.

Mata has warned his former club that United not just heading south in search of a draw, writing in his blog: “It will, without doubt, be a special one for me.

“For us it will be the first test from a tough run of fixtures, but we are hoping to play at a high level and return home with a win.

“We will finish off October by welcoming both Juventus and Everton to Old Trafford.

“It is a fixture list that is going to ask for our best football.”
