Chelsea news: Blues make N’Golo Kante decision amid PSG transfer rumours

The France international is only two years into the five-year contract he signed when he joined from Leicester in 2016.

But it is believed that PSG have sniffed around the World Cup winner, having been linked with him back in the summer.

And the Mirror say that Chelsea want to stave off interest from the French champions by tying Kante down to fresh terms.

The 27-year-old has been a pivotal player for the west London outfit since his arrival, helping also been crucial for Leicester’s title-winning team.

In his first season with Chelsea, Kante won a whole host of personal accolades including the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season as the Blues won the league.

He has completed the full 90 minutes in all eight of Chelsea’s top-flight games this season under Maurizio Sarri, even scoring in an opening-weekend win over Huddersfield.

Kante recently revealed that he had talks with PSG in the summer – but insisted that he was only focused on staying with Chelsea.

“There was no particular desire to go somewhere after the World Cup,” the Frenchman said.

“There was some interest from elsewhere, but things were clear after speaking with Chelsea – the club is counting on me and I feel good.

“The next logical step was to continue with Chelsea. There was some contact with PSG, yes.

“However, after a discussion with the club, I realised that the main thing for me was to feel good where I was then and am now.

“I am with Chelsea – staying with Chelsea is good for me.”

Combative midfielder Kante is on the 30-man shortlist for the 2018 Ballon d’Or and though he is unlikely to claim the award with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric the three most likely recipients – Paul Pogba would like to see him win it.

The Manchester United midfielder thinks a member of France’s triumphant team from Russia deserves to take the crown.

He told AFP: “It’s all I hope for whatever happens, because there are a lot of them who deserve it.

I’m not going to get into it, whether it’s [Antoine] Griezmann, Kylian [Mbappe] or Raphael [Varane] who deserve it much more than me.

“I can’t pick one of them, but I sincerely hope it’ll be one of those three, or even four because there’s also NG [N’Golo Kante].”

Kanye and Chelsea face Pogba and United this Saturday in a crunch clash at Stamford Bridge (12.30pm).
