
Kotzebue or Kikiktagruk is a city in the Northwest Arctic Borough in the US state of Alaska.
It is the borough’s seat, by far its largest community and the economic and transportation hub of the subregion of Alaska encompassing the borough.
According to the United States Geological Survey, (USGS) nearby places that could be affected by the tremors are Ishiuk, Alaska, College, Alaska, Fairbanks, Alaska, Badger, Alaska, Anadyr, Chukotka, Russia.
The USGS reviewed the quake and put it at a magnitude 5.3, which means slight damage may be caused to buildings and other structures.
There is little or no area affected or population exposed to landslides, the USGS said.

Although the earthquake was only moderate, the perceived shaking was very strong, the USGS said.
The USGS said the potential damage caused by the tremors is “moderate”.
