You old tax discs could be worth up to £1,225 – Rare ones selling on eBay to look out for

Motorists could make over £1,000 by selling their old car tax disc on eBay.

Tax discs are a thing from the past and they were scrapped back in 2014 when new system changes were introduced.

A new online system was brought into force which saw the discs disappear from our vehicle’s windscreens.

Like most things that are phased out or scrapped, certain versions have become collector’s items which are heavily sought after on auction sites such as .

One tax disc recently sold for £1,225 which attracted 16 bids on the auction site before selling for a whopping amount.

The disc was put online for a £100 starting price.

The tax disc in question was a rare disc from a 1921 Alldays Vehicles which was purchased in Birmingham on the 09/10/1921 for vehicle registration number OB 1583, according to the seller.

Tax discs from 1921 look to fetch the biggest amounts online and vehicles from that era are the most sought after.

For example, two discs from 1921 and 1924 sold for £860 and another 1921 plate sold for £786.

Job lots of car tax discs also tend to fetch high amount with 63 old discs selling for £205 ranging from dates between 1970 and 2015.

Most motorists won’t have access to pates form that time but there are also some recent examples that are sought after too.

A rare run of tax discs from 2003 which contained a barcode are now well sought after.

On eBay, these plates can regularly fetch hundreds with two recent examples selling for £170.55 and £149.95 respectively.
