In July an Iranian diplomat and a couple of Iranian descent were arrested in Germany and Belgium respectively on suspicion of plotting to bomb an Iranian dissidents rally in Paris.
The supposed diplomat, Vienna based Assadollah Assadi, had provided the couple with explosives and a detonator.
The targeted rally was organised by the Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK) group which seeks to overthrow the Iranian government and was attended by thousands, including President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani
A senior German official said: “There are clear indications for calling this a case of state terrorism.”

One Middle Eastern intelligence official claimed there has been a “definite uptick” in operations and the Iranians are “preparing themselves for the possibility of conflict”.

They state Iran has increased its intelligence gathering across the globe and is planning a number of terror attacks.
In August the US Justice Department arrested two men, both of whom held Iranian citizenship, on suspicion of spying for Iran.
The men had allegedly been surveilling a Chicago Jewish organisation and MEK rallies in Washington and New York.
Last year in Germany a Pakistani man was jailed for four years after being convicted of scouting for Jewish and Israeli targets in the country, on behalf of Iran’s elite Quds Force, the overseas branch of the country’s Revolutionary Guards.
According to an Israeli official the Iranian government had ordered its operatives around the world to quickly find targets, and that in the rush to do so some made mistakes leading to their arrest.
A German official alleged that France and Germany, both affected by the Paris plot, “would rather play the danger and level of interference down” in order to try and save the Iranian nuclear deal.
The Iranian nuclear deal, agreed in July 2015, in currently hanging by a thread after President Trump withdrew the US from the agreement in May this year.
Trump alleged Iran was failing to honour the spirit of the agreement by continuing to develop ballistic missiles and supporting terror groups across the Middle East.
Norman Roule, the CIA’s national intelligence manager for Iran, said the weak European response is telling the Iranians “you can get away with pretty much anything”.
He also alleged Iran plotted to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States in Washington during 2013.
Iran has previously targeted both Iranian dissidents and foreign rivals abroad.
However, the country strongly denies that it is supporting or conducting terrorism, and has claimed the supposed Paris plot was fabricated to damage Iran’s reputation.
