UFC News – Conor McGregor’s coach talks next fight
Conor McGregor will likely be back in the Octagon in the summer of 2019, his head coach John Kavanagh believes.
“I think summer is probably realistic,” Kavanagh said during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast.
“We have to obviously see what punishment Khabib gets. Hopefully, it’s not a long ban.”
McGregor, 30, suffered a submission loss to lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov last weekend in the main event of UFC 229.
The Irishman’s bid to reclaim the 155lbs crown ended three minutes and three seconds into the fourth round courtesy of a neck crank.
The Dubliner is hoping to have an immediate rematch with his successor at the summit of the lightweight division, who sparked a mass brawl moments after his maiden title defence.
However, a second encounter with the Russian is currently up in the air as his rival has threatened to quit the UFC if the promotion sack his team-mate Zubaira Tukhugov, who attacked McGregor in the post-fight melee.
UFC News – Nate Diaz asks to be fired
UFC veteran Nate Diaz has asked the promotion’s president Dana White to fire him instead of Zubaira Tukhugov, who attacked McGregor in the brawl which followed UFC 229’s main event.
“Dana White, please let kabobs (Khabib’s) dumba** friend stay in the UFC,” the Stockton native tweeted.
“Fire me it will be better this way. I think it’s more fair that way.”
UFC News – Daniel Cormier discusses his future
UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has admitted he doesn’t know if he’ll manage to fight Jon Jones or Brock Lesnar before hanging up his gloves next March.
“Counting the (Derrick) Lewis fight, I think I’m down to two fights left,” Cormier told ESPN. “Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise, the fact that I don’t have a crazy, long fight camp to beat myself down.
“That may prolong it for me, but right now, I think I have this one and maybe one more.
“I can still fight in March and hit my retirement date.
“The one opponent that would matter to me most is Jones, because he’s beaten me twice.”
“The one that would mean more financially would be Lesnar.
“I think I would always pick the one that means more, but my wife might have something to say about that.”
