LeBron James RESTED: Lakers coach drops ace from pre-season clash vs Golden State Warriors

James starred for the Lakers on Tuesday with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in just 18 minutes as the Lakers beat the Warriors 123-113 in Las Vegas.

But in a bid to keep him as fresh as possible ahead of the new season, Lakers coach Luke Walton has opted to rest the 33-year-old.

Rajon Rondo is also rested while Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Alex Caruso will miss out with injury.

In their absence, Lonzo Ball, Lance Stephenson, Kyle Kuzma, Michael Beasley and JaVale McGee will start against the Warriors.

“Same goals as always: We don’t care who’s playing and who’s not, we’re gonna build an identity, and it’s gotta be who we are,” Walton said.

“No matter who’s on the court, we play a certain way.”

In contrast to the Lakers, Warriors coach Steve Kerr intends to fully use his roster.

Draymond Green will be on a minutes restriction after recovering from a knee injury.

While All-Stars Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are all expected to play.

“It’ll be good to have Draymond back,” Kerr said.

“With him out the last three games, it’s created some interesting combinations.

“Which has been good for us to get a an look at guys.

“But some of the combinations have struggled a little bit, so Draymond has a way of tying things together out there.”

The Lakers begin their season against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.

While the Warriors start against their campaign for a third NBA championship against Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.
