Avengers Spider-Man NOT in Venom but WILL appear in next Marvel spin-off with THIS villain

Fans were really hope Spidey would swing into view in Venom, if only in a playful end credit scene. We now know that doesn’t happen, but he is already confirmed for a major crossover into Sony’s Marvel universe.

Sony is following Venom with Jared Leto’s Morbius the Vampire and then a Kraven the Hunter origin story.

Screenwriter Richard Wenk has just gone on record about his plans for Spider-Man and his arch-enemy Kraven. The pair crossed paths on screen in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game.

He also revealed the film could be split in two parts and draw inspiration from a famous storyline.

Richard Wenk is best known for the Equaliser film franchise but will tackle a Marvel comicbook adaptation next and has already started preparing the script and storyline.

He told Discussing Film about the upcoming Kraven film: “It is in the Spider-Man universe. It is going to adhere very closely to the lore of Kraven the Hunter and he is going to come face to face with Spider-Man.

“I’m just beginning it. Because it is a big Marvel world there are a lot of hurdles to overcome before you can start writing, to crack the rights for it, to get the right tone.”

Wenk also expanded on his vision for the classic but little-known villain, and which Marvel storylines he is taking inspiration from.

He added: “He is very grounded. He doesn’t have a lot of superpowers. He is more grounded and that is what I like to do.

“You have to look at everything to soak it in but we are also looking at Kraven’s Last Hunt and whether this (storyline) is the precursor to the (Kraven) movie or whether we will include it. Or even that Kraven could be like Kill Bill, two movies.

“It’s an origin story and nobody is rushing anything.”

Spider-Man was last seen turning to dust in Infinity War but fans already know he will be back for his own sequel, Far From Home.

Sony retains the right to all the characters from the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs so hs appearance in the Kraven movie is logical although Marvel may not want any Avengers characters to enter into the Sony big screen franchises until the two universes are properly integrated.

Kraven the Hunter (Sergei Kravinoff) is one of Spider-Man’s frequent enemies and the half-brother of Dmitri Smerdyakov, better known as the Chameleon.
