Liverpool news: Trent Alexander-Arnold delivers title verdict amid Jurgen Klopp praise

The full-back was dropped to the bench as Liverpool drew 0-0 with title rivals Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Riyad Mahrez fired a late penalty over the crossbar as Pep Guardiola’s side missed the chance to earn a valuable three points.

Alexander-Arnold turned 20-years-old on the day of the match but has already achieved so much over the last 18 months.

The youngster started the Champions League final in Kiev against Real Madrid and was also a surprise inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad which reached the semi-finals in Russia.

Liverpool are yet to lose from their opening eight league matches, wining six of them.

The Reds are now four matches without a win after coming out the other end of a sticky few weeks of fixtures which has seen them play Chelsea twice, Napoli and of course, City.

“There’s obviously a lot of room for improvement,” Alexander-Arnold told the Independent.

“We’re not a perfect team at all. We still concede goals, and that’s something that we want to try and stop. But those challenges become harder and harder as the season goes on, and that’s something we’ll look to improve.”

There is no doubt that Liverpool have improved, they were already nine points behind City at this stage last season.

As we approach the international break, Liverpool, Chelsea and last season’s champions are all deadlocked on 20 points.

There is now genuine belief they can go all the way and win their first ever Premier League title and the defender has claimed Klopp has the experience to do that.

“We know what it’s like to play in high-pressure games, because we felt it last season in the Champions League,” Alexander-Arnold added.

“The manager’s got a lot of experience as well in these situations [with Borussia Dortmund], so he knows what it takes to win titles. So as usual, he’ll give all of us the perfect advice to keep getting wins, because that’s all that matters.”

The usually prolific frontline of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is yet to click into first gear this season.

When club football returns they’ll be presented with three perfect opportunities to find their scoring boots.

The Reds travel to Huddersfield before hosting Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League and then Cardiff.
