The San Antonio Spurs confirmed the injury to Murray after he crashed to the floor in agony after an attempted drive to the hoop in their pre-season clash with the Houston Rockets on Sunday.
A wheelchair was brought to help Murray off the court but he was able to walk off with the support of the Spurs medical team.
No timeframe has been issued for Murray’s return but he will miss the start of the new NBA season and is expected to be out for an extended period.
However, James has no doubts Murray will return in even better shape.
James wrote on Instagram: “Man I feared that would be the case when I saw the play! F*#% man!

“Lil bro you’ll be back stronger, quicker, faster and more athletic when you return.
“Just remain patient and confident throughout this entire process! Minor setback for major comeback.
“You know how to reach me and where to find me if needed. Love lil bro!!”
Murray was set to have a prominent role for the Spurs following the retirement of Manu Ginobili and the exits of Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker.
Team-mate Patty Mills said: “He definitely cares in his own development, he definitely cares as a whole team and how much progress we make together.
“He was a big part of that last year with his development, and obviously a big part going into this year.
“He knows, he understands. We all know.
“But it was good for him to see us as a group, and for him to see that we’ve got his back throughout this tough time.”
