WWE news: Rey Mysterio return date REVEALED after WWE Super Show-Down

Rumours have been suggesting for months that Mysterio would come back to Vince McMahon’s promotion after his one-off appearances at the Royal Rumble in January and the Greatest Royal Rumble three months later.

And WWE announced that the three-time world champion will be part of Smackdown’s 1,000th episode, which will mark his first appearance in the blue brand in over four years.

A statement read: “SmackDown 1000 now has another number of significance attached to it. That number is 619, because Rey Mysterio is back.

“The SmackDown legend will appear on the history-making episode, marking his return to the blue brand for the first time in more than four years.

“The former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion is best remembered for energising SmackDown with his signature aerial attack, unbelievable athleticism and never-say-die attitude.

Mysterio is one of the most respected WWE legends of all time as he has beaten some of the greatest wrestlers, like Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho and CM Punk.

The Master of the 619 also thrived in the tag team division as he won championships alongside the likes of Edge, Rob Van Dam and Batista.

The ex-Intercontinental Champion always impressed against super heavyweights despite his 5ft 6in, 175lb frame and that helped him win the Royal Rumble Match in 2006 after throwing Randy Orton over the top rope.

Mysterio also stood out in the Cruiserweight division since his WCW days as he won the title eight times and had some classic bouts against the likes of Dean Malenko, Chavo Guerrero and Ultimo Dragon.

The high-flyer left WWE in 2015 after almost 13 years in McMahon’s company and went on to have some impressive stints at Lucha Underground, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and other promotions.

The Biggest Little Man won’t be the only legend taking part in the historic Smackdown episode as he will be joined by The Undertaker just 10 days after his brutal battle with Triple H at WWE Super Show-Down.

Triple H, Ric Flair and Batista will also be returning to reform the legendary Evolution with Orton.

Some of Smackdown’s biggest stars will also be present, such as WWE Champion AJ Styles, US Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and many more.
