More good news for PS4 users has been shared that could affect the end of 2018 in a big way.
It looks like Sony are gearing up to make some significant changes to how PSN usernames work.
Sources suggest that the tech giant is moving toward making it possible to change your details, something that has been a wanted feature from fans for some time.
It has been rumoured in the past that this is being worked on but so far, no more news has been officially shared by Sony.
The limitation of not being able to change your username has been in place since the service first launched in 2006.
vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.
The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.
And only last year PlayStation was asked about the problem, replying that issues could be fixed before the next PlayStation Experience in 2018.
Now a new report from Kotaku, sourcing the news from several different developers, reveals Sony is working on updating their PSN features.
“Three people at three different game studios, speaking anonymously because they were not authorised to talk to press, said that in recent months they’ve been fixing bugs, tweaking settings, and ensuring that their games are compatible with Sony’s plans,” the Kotaku report states.
“A fourth person who worked for a game studio shared a photo, obtained from internal Sony documentation, of a PSN profile containing the option “edit username.”
“The documentation was a guide for changing one’s name on the PlayStation Network, that person said.”
This doesn’t come from Sony themselves, so it’s worth treating it with a pinch of salt for the time being.
It should also be noted that no release date has been leaked for this PSN feature, meaning it could be arriving next year.
With a launch connected with the PSX this year, fans could be notably excited for the event.
However, it was recently revealed that the PlayStation Experience would not be held in 2018.
The PlayStation Experience is typically held in December and features a smattering of new game announcements and gameplay reveals.
Unfortunately, however, Sony doesn’t feel it can justify an event this year, which suggests the PS4 is starting to wind down.
The news was confirmed by Sony’s Shawn Layden, who told the PlayStation Blogcast that the company didn’t want to raise expectations.
“Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down in 2019 to games like Dreams and Days Gone but we wouldn’t have enough to bring people altogether in some location in North America to have that event,” he said (via Gamingbolt).
“We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it.”
