Niantic had done much this year to win back flagging Trainers with new events and features.
Players have helped push the game’s revenue to new heights and are likely to stick around for the future.
Pokemon Go still has a few features missing, such as PvP, which could be something that drives growth on Android and iOS even further.
Trainers are also on the lookout for the next major event, with Halloween 2018 looking like the best candidate.
The holiday has been central to Niantic’s plans since the game launched, and it appears work is being done for this year’s edition.

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.
The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.
Fans can expect a new event, but will it also include Gen 4 Pokemon?
Last year boasted a new generation of pocket monsters, albeit, only Ghost-types.
This was followed by a gradual rollout in December, something that Trainers believe could happen this year too.
So far, Niantic has been tight-lipped on what they have planned for Halloween, although it appears new teasers will be released very soon.
A Pokemon Go newsletter was picked up by players earlier this week that provides the first look at what Niantic has planned.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t go much further than confirming that plans are afoot for something happening in October.
Translated from the original Spanish text, the teaser reads: “Breaking news! Breaking news, trainers. Professor Willow reports that spooky events have occurred nearby. Could they be the work of a Ghost-type Pokemon? Stay tuned to find out.”
While this doesn’t tell us much, it does suggest that a special research event is being cooked up.
Will Niantic launch a new ghost-type from Gen 4 this way? There are plenty of candidates that could fit the role.
Mismagius is one of many Pokemon that could be part of a future event, with Dusknoir and secondary ghost-types also a possibility.
This all remains speculation for the time being, although there have been hints that Pokemon Gen 4 is being worked on by Niantic.
Data miners recently found references to Sinnoh types in the game’s code, a pretty good sign something is coming.
However, since these Sinnoh references were found in the network traffic by data analyst Chrales, it appears it has now been removed.
Halloween isn’t far away so you can bet data miners will be keeping an eye on Pokemon Go network traffic to see if any more surprises pop up.
Players can catch a new hat-wearing Pikachu in the wild right now, which is also available buy in the shop for your character.
“A Pikachu wearing a special cap has been spotted in Pokémon GO. Don’t miss your chance to catch it,” a message from Niantic explains.
“A cool new look inspired by Pikachu is now available for free in the Style Shop.”
The black cap Pikachu sounds like it will be available to catch for the weekend, although it’s unclear how long it will remain available.
There’s the added bonus of this new Pikachu variant being available to catch in shiny form too.
It follows on from the release of the Pokemon Psychic Spectacular, bringing with it Shiny Drowzees and additional field research.
The new event will last over a week and will include more psychic-type Pokemon like Abra, Ralts, and Baltoy appearing in the wild.
Shiny Drowzee appearances are also being thrown in by Niantic, as well as additional field research.
According to research by Silph Road, there’s a one in 450 chance of catching a shiny Pokemon in the wild.
Drowzees are also hatching from 5km eggs so there’s a chance you’ll be able to get the shiny version of the psychic Pokemon that way.
If you find a Shiny Drowzee and you want to evolve it into a Shiny Hypno, which won’t be appearing in the wild, then you’ll need 50 candy.
