Man Utd news: Eric Bailly had harsh reaction towards Jose Mourinho after Newcastle hooking

Manchester United faced Newcastle at Old Trafford yesterday knowing a win was needed to lift the pressure off Mourinho’s shoulders.

Things, however, got off to a rocky start. Rafa Benitez’s side, who are yet to register a single Premier League win this season, raced into a two-goal lead.

Reacting with speed, Mourinho made the bold decision to withdraw Bailly, whose future at Manchester United is in doubt.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with the Ivory Coast international.

And the Daily Mail say that, when Mourinho embraced him, Bailly only responded ‘half-heartedly.’

The duo have been at loggerheads for some time.

At the end of last season, Bailly was regularly left out of United’s starting XI.

Speaking at the time, Mourinho explained that he was omitting the centre-back because players going to the World Cup needed the minutes.

That did not fool anyone, though.

Rio Ferdinand, who spent 12 successful years at United as a player, thinks Bailly is running out of time at Old Trafford.

“I don’t see a way back for Eric Bailly at Manchester United and he has been made the fall guy this evening,” he said.

“They look like a team that is worried to make mistakes, and that is a concern.”

“I feel sorry for Scott McTominay – he’s a central midfielder being forced to play centre-half.”

Bailly was Mourinho’s first signing as United manager.

And he has already won two trophies under the Portuguese, in the form of the EFL Cup and Europa League titles.

Whether he features regularly after the international break, though, remains to be seen.
