Kavanaugh was the ‘sl*t whore drunk’ not Christine Blasey Ford – says Senator Graham

Judge Kavanaugh has been embroiled in a fierce row over historic allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denies.

Senator Graham insisted the real victim of the process was Mr Kavanaugh and dismissed any suggestion that sexual assault victims would be more reluctant to speak out after his confirmation.

Speaking moments after Mr Kavanaugh’s appointment, Senator Graham said: “I think the roles were reversed: The sl*t whore drunk was Kavanaugh.

“I’ve tried to look at this thing through a process that stood the test of time — some standards, some presumptions, some evidentiary requirements.

“All I can say is that seldom do you advance justice by creating an injustice, and I think it would have been unjust for Judge Kavanaugh to have his life ruined based on the allegations that were presented.”

Mr Graham also dismissed some allegations against the conservative judge, which he believes were “outrageous”, “anonymous”, and made “no sense”.

But he claimed that while Dr Ford may have appeared credible during the hearing, there was not enough evidence to support her claims.

He added: “Dr Ford, I think, is the victim of a process.

“But we’ve got to have some verifications, some sense of balance, because if that’s enough, just the mere accusation, then you’re going to unleash Pandora’s Box here.

“Because those of us in public service, you should be scrutinised but you don’t want to set a standard where you just take anybody out by accusing them.”

Senator Graham is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination and send it for a full vote on the floor.

The US Senate, controlled by the Republican Party, confirmed Mr Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court by 50 votes to 48.

In a series of tweets after Kavanaugh’s nomination was confirmed, Senator Graham celebrated the vote, which handed President Donald Trump a major victory.

He tweeted: “I’m not tired of winning. Victory!’”

He attached a photo of himself with Mr Kavanaugh, with the word “confirmed” written on the picture.
