Mourinho saw his Manchester United side survive an almighty scare at Old Trafford to beat Newcastle and relieve some of the doom and gloom mood around the place.
The Red Devils were 2-0 down after just 20 minutes.
But then Manchester United responded with Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez all scoring.
Mourinho’s substitutions at half-time worked well, with Rashford and McTominay both making way.
And the United boss has now opened up on the decision to hook the popular duo.

“Marcus Rashford was sad, Scott McTominay was scared on the pitch,” Jose Mourinho said.
Juan Mata, though, chose to focus on the positives.
The United star was delighted at the comeback and getting on the scoresheet along the way.
“We needed something like that,” Mata said.
“It was very difficult to come back but we created more chances than we scored.
“We gave everything we had to win and in the second half we felt we had nothing to lose, and it is natural to create more when that happens.
“It is relief and we feel that we got what we needed. In football, results fix everything.
“In the second half we tried especially for the fans, and tonight they go home happy.”
United’s win over Newcastle is massive.
But whether Mourinho is around after the international break remains to be seen.
Reports are still claiming that Zinedine Zidane is in line to take over at Old Trafford.
