Both navigation apps offer everything from satellite imagery to street maps, 360 degree street views, real-time traffic updates and route planning – all for free.
Google Maps has been the go-to mapping service ever since it was launched in 2005 and is enjoyed by around 154 million monthly users.
Apple released its own mapping app in 2012 in an attempt to break Google’s near-monopoly.
But the launch sparked a storm of criticism, with complaints about incorrect directions, a lack of support for public transport and other glitches making the service almost unusable.
Several updates have solved these issues, allowing Apple Maps to rebound from its poor start.

Apple Maps features

Apple’s iconic voice assistant Siri is incredibly useful when requesting directions when behind the wheel.
The app works really well when paired with Apple Watch – it will, for example, vibrate to alert a driver to turn.
Useful local-search service Yelp is fully integrated with Apple Maps, providing loads of useful information about your neighbourhood.
A final benefit is how Apple’s version lists if a business takes Apple Pay or not.
Google Maps features
There is one major flaw with Apple’s version – its product is inferior based on the map data alone.
Google’s service has been around longer than Apple Maps and is continually getting better.
And the way the maps are not represented as well – on Apple Maps, the surfaces are flatter and show more default locations.
Google also provide more options to personalise your maps, such as explore, driving, transit, satellite, terrain, traffic, and biking.
Google also has 3D models of most buildings – for example, the Empire State Building actually resembles the building and not just a flat rectangle.
Apple admittedly has these in some locations, but not as often as its rival.
Google also has a Google Assistant button, quick access to input an address, and settings for your Google account and map.
