World War 3: China is a ‘SIGNIFICANT and GROWING RISK’ to US military warns alarming study

The new report was meant to analyse and mend weaknesses in the US industries that are vital to the country.

The nearly 150-page report concluded there are around 300 vulnerabilities that could potentially affect the critical materials used by the US military.

While the report was meant to look at weaknesses as a whole, there was a heavy emphasis on China.

According to the report, Beijing is a threat due to its domination of the global supply of rare earth minerals and their global profile in the supply of various types of electronics and chemicals used in US munitions.

The report said: “A key finding of this report is that China represents a significant and growing risk to the supply of materials and technologies deemed strategic and critical to US national security.”

China supplies over half of the world’s printed circuit boards which presents a risk to the US defences.

The report said: “With the migration of advanced board manufacturing offshore, (the Department of Defence) risks losing visibility into the manufacturing provenance of its products.”

The Pentagon has also feared there is the potential for China to incorporate “kill switches” in transistors.

By doing so, China would have the ability to shut down sensitive US systems during times of conflict.

The report warned there is the possibility that China could use “’Trojan’ chips and viruses” to infiltrate US defence systems.

Relations between the US and China have been fraught with tension since US President Donald Trump declared a trade war on China.

Since the start of the economic dispute, the US has slapped multiple tariffs on Chinese imports in the hopes of encouraging Americans to “buy American”.

In addition to the tariffs put on China, there have also been military escalations.

Recently, a US and Chinese warship nearly collided while the US vessel was taking part in an operation in the South China Sea.

The US has since proposed doing a week-long military exercise as a show of force against Beijing.
