It has been revealed that Nintendo is thinking about releasing a new Switch console next year.
It could prove a shock move for those who have just bought a new console and are looking forward to the holiday season releases.
According to the Wall Street Journal report, a new Nintendo Switch games console could be released in 2019.
The good news is that it would be completely compatible with existing games and will likely only look to improve on the general features.
The new model would “likely share many features with the current version and be compatible with existing Switch game software.”

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.
That’s according to the report out today, which also states that Nintendo are still undecided on what exact features to offer in the new Switch.
Nintendo “is still debating what new hardware and software features to include in the upgrade,” according to the report.
One idea is to release a new Nintendo Switch with an improved LCD screen, much like you see in modern smartphones.
How this would affect price is unclear but it appears the redesign would help make the Switch provide a brighter screen, be more energy efficent and also be thinner.
All of those would be massive bonuses for fans who are still thinking about buying the handheld.
The one major feature many Switch owners would like to see is better storage for games.
Nintendo is looking at releasing a new Switch console, allegedly because they want to revitalise sales.
These have apparently dipped since the initial launch and this would be a ploy to help boost sales going forward.
No clear release schedule was offered in the report, which goes some way to back up initial analysts reports when the Switch first released.
Based on how Nintendo treated their 3DS line of devices, it was expected that new refined versions of the Switch would be made available.
Some of this was based on the Nintendo console being a draw for the younger audience, leading some to predict a mini Nintendo Switch being launched in 2020.
However, this latest report suggests that Nintendo want to provide a serious upgrade to their latest console, in a year that could be filled with reports on rival devices.
Both the PS5 and Xbox Two are expected to be revealed in 2019, meaning fresh competition for the Nintendo Switch.
