Hurricane tracker LIVE map: Satellite images show two MAJOR hurricanes raging RIGHT NOW

For the first time in more than a decade, two Category 5 hurricanes were raging at the same time.

The last time earth fuelled two tropical beasts at this level and at the same time was in 2005.

The two major hurricanes are located on opposite sides of the Pacific, Hurricane Walaka in the northeast and Super Typhoon Kong Rey to the west.

On Tuesday both of the weather systems had maximum sustained winds of 157mph or more.

Hurricane Walaka

Since yesterday, Walaka has been downgraded to a Category 4 hurricane.

The weather system is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 130mph with some higher gusts and is moving north at 13mph.

The centre of the storm is presently located 100 miles north-northwest of Johnston Atoll, an unincorporated territory of the United States and 465 miles south-southwest of French Frigate Shoals in Papahanaumokuakea.

A hurricane warning is in effect for Johnston Atoll and for Papahanaumokuakea from French Frigate Shoals to Maro Reef and a tropical storm warning is in effect for Papahanaumokuakea from Nihoa to French Frigate Shoals.

According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Centre the storm is expected to pass between French Frigate Shoals and Gardner Pinnacles Wednesday night.

Super Typhoon Kong Rey

Kong Rey was also downgraded from a Category 5 hurricane Tuesday.

The dangerous weather system is currently the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane but has wind gusts over 100mph.

Based in the Pacific it is creeping closer to Japan and South Korea.

Kong Rey comes just on the heels of deadly Typhoon Trami, and Japan is now facing another life-threatening storm.

According to AccuWeather, Miyako and Okinawa are expected to face the worst of Kong-Rey’s impacts, which will include damaging winds and torrential rainfall.

Hurricane Sergio

Sergio is forecast to rapidly strengthen over the next 24 to 48 hours after it became a major hurricane Tuesday.

The monstrous storm currently has maximum sustained winds of 125mph, making it a Category 3 major hurricane on the Saffir Simpson Wind Scale.

And forecast models show the enormous weather system will become a Category 4 before the end of the week.

Spaghetti models show the hurricane is moving in a northwestern direction at 10 mph and is located approximately 845 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico.

Hurricane Leslie

Leslie is located just over the central Atlantic Ocean and poses no threat to land for at least next week.

The weather system became a Category 1 hurricane early Wednesday morning and has maximum sustained winds of 80mph.

Currently located about 510 miles east-southeast of Bermuda the hurricane’s present movement is stationary.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said: “The storm will remain a gale center and is a concern for shipping routes that pass through the region.

“Large swells generated by Leslie past, present and future will continue to bring heavy wave action to the islands of Bermuda and the Azores.”
