Huawei P20 Pro has a huge challenger that may have just had its best feature teased

Huawei P20 Pro was released back in March and caught a lot of attention for its triple-camera setup that was capable of taking some stunning snaps.

P20 Pro came with a main shooter, a monochrome lens and a telephoto sensor.

The trio combined to produce photos with incredible levels of detail.

But the device also touted a number of other notable flagship specs including a lush 6.1-inch display, a whopping 4,000mAh battery and a blisteringly fast processor.

For those reasons and many others the P20 Pro received five out of five stars when we reviewed it at Express.co.uk.

Technology Editor David Snelling said: “Huawei has been making smartphones for years but nothing has grabbed our attention quite like the P20 Pro.

“This flagship easily keeps pace with the competition and in many ways it actually outclasses its rivals.

“The triple camera is fabulous, it looks great and that battery life is so impressive other manufacturers should be embarrassed about their lacklustre performance.

“The P20 Pro is up there with the best of them and we wouldn’t be surprised if Huawei’s trophy cabinet isn’t full with awards by the end of 2018.”

But the P20 Pro is likely to be challenged by Huawei’s newest flagship, the Mate 20 Pro, that looks set to be announced on October 16 in London.

Alleged Huawei Mate 20 Pro units have been spotted in the wild that may have given some details on what the new Android smartphone could look like.

The supposed device was pictured flaunting a triple-camera setup, just like the P20 Pro, but this time the sensors were arranged differently.

Although the alleged Mate 20 Pro unit was housed in a case, a noticeable square cutout was present on the rear where the three lenses and flash were displayed.

Such a move hints Huawei could opt to change the positioning of the cameras for the Mate 20 Pro when compared to the P20 Pro.

And a new teaser video from Huawei on its Twitter account has poured further fuel on such speculation.

The short clip shows someone quad biking in the desert and the phrase “this is the time to explore something new” is displayed.

The words “this is Mate” are then displayed in a very similar shape to that of the camera models shown on supposed Mate 20 Pro units.

Huawei’s newest processor, the Kirin 980, is set to debut on the Mate 20 Pro.

In fact the Chinese firm recently posted an image promoting its upcoming showcase in London where it showed the chip inside an outline of the forthcoming flagship.

Kirin 980 is notable because it is a 7-nanometre chip.

This means the processor is more efficient and can perform better overall.

Apple recently showed off its A12 Bionic chip that is also 7-nanometre and similarly touted the huge improvements it will bring for users.

Express.co.uk will be covering Huawei’s hardware event on October 16 live.
