Suárez flicks through to Messi with the backheel and the Argentinian has beaten the keeper for the hat trick! Clinical finish and within the span of a quarter hour the Dutch champions have gone from touching distance of a draw to a thorough beating.
85 min: Lozano is ruled offside and Barcelona make their final two substitutions with Arthur coming on for Dembélé and Vidal entering for Rakitić.
82 min: Barcelona make an immediate change after the sending off with Lenglet entering for Coutinho. Moments after PSV make their final substitution with Gutierrez making way for Rosario.
Umtiti, booked for dissent earlier in the match, is shown a second yellow for making no attempt to get out of the way of Lozano, who is stopped in his tracks as if he ran into a brick wall. The hosts will be a man down for last dozen minutes or so, but surely they’ve done enough. Moments before, PSV made their second change with Malen entering for Bergwijn.
Messi receives a lob from Rakitić while squeezing in past three defenders and slots home his second goal.
An absolutely stunning individual effort by the Frenchman, who receives a pass from Coutinho, breaks free from a paid of midfielders, darts past Schwaab and pounds a screamer from outside the area into the top-right corner. What a goal.
68 min: A golden chance for Suárez in the area off some nice interplay with Coutinho, who’s been excellent today, but the Uruguayan cannot convert.
66 min: The first substitution for either side as the French defender Isimat-Mirin comes on for Viergever.
65 min: Another counter by PSV and it’s Bergwijn again, but his shot is blocked out by the keeper. A corner. The visitors’ corner is easily cleared past the halfway line and they’ll start over from the back.
62 min: PSV have numbers on the counter, but a low and hard strike from Bergwijn outside the area is gobbled up by Ter Stegen.
60 min: Suárez down in a heap a few yards outside the area after appearing to get poked in the eye by Viergever, who escapes without a booking. Messi takes the ensuing free kick, again curling it toward the top-right corner, but this time it bends safely off target and out.
58 min: Coutinho emerges from a gaggle of defenders in the area and fires a laser of a shot toward the far corner but a fully extended Zoet is able to get a hand on it and over the bar for a corner.
57 min: A pair of yellows for hard fouls in quick succession as the intensity of the action heats up: first to Umtiti, moments later to De Jong.
55 min: Coutinho with all the time in the world finds Suárez barreling into the area with plenty of space but his shot sails over the bar. All three PSV subs warming up on the touchline with no one up from the Barcelona bench just yet.
53 min: A great spell of attack from Barcelona over the last few minutes and PSV are on their heels. They finally dispossess the hosts and a backpass to Zoet finds the keeper going one on one with a fast-closing Suárez, only barely clearing it from the danger.
49 min: Messi nearly makes it a pair with a low shot from inside the area but Zoet is there to make the save. He’s been far more visible in the first five minutes than in the opening half.
46 min: No changes for either side at the half. And it’s PSV with the near-immediate chance as Ter Stegen makes a hair-trigger save after a well-played cross into the area.
A moment of brilliance from Messi opens this year’s Champions League ledger and is all that separates Barcelona and PSV after 45 lively minutes. More to come from the Camp Nou.
45 min+1: De Jong tries from range with the whistle for half-time moments away but it sails over the crossbar.
45 min: The fourth official has signals for one minute of added time.
42 min: Another shot from distance from the hosts but Rakitić’s attempt doesn’t fool Zoet. Moments later Sergio Busquets wins a foul from Pereiro, but Rakitić’s free kick is off the mark.
40 min: A bit of a slow patch for both sides over the last few minutes as PSV seek to get to the dressing room only down a goal. Jordi Alba tries from distance but it’s off target.
36 min: Suarez has a go from range when he spots Zoet off the line but misses.
34 min: Messi has now scored a Champions League goal in 14 different seasons, per Gracenote. He’s the third player to achieve the feat after Ryan Giggs (16) and Raúl (15).
33 min: Shortly after the restart it’s another attempt by Barça, this time from Rakitić, but it’s blocked by Tasende.
Messi stands over the ball, takes a short run up and casually curls it into the top-right corner past the outstretched arms of Zoet. Nothing the keeper could do. Just a brilliant, well-placed attempt by the master.
30 min: A thundering run by Dembélé down the center of the pitch ends when the Frenchman is hacked down by Viergever right on the edge of the area dead center. The Dutchman is shown first yellow card of the match for either side by the Greek referee Anastasios Sidiropoulos. Free kick forthcoming and an excellent chance for the hosts.
28 min: Rakitić takes a shot on goal from just inside the area but it’s blocked by Viergever. Moments later Sergi has a go but it misses the mark.
26 min: Barcelona dominating possession nearly three to one at this stage, but PSV with more chances (five attempts with one on target) than the hosts (four and zero, respectively).
24 min: Rosario is fouled by Suárez near the corner and Pereiro takes the free kick, but it’s headed back toward the halfway line by the well organized defense.
22 min: Barcelona win another corner but it’s headed out and it’s free to Lozano on the other end, but his speculative attempt safely misses the target by a mile. PSV very much in the fight with a quarter of the match in the books.
20 min: Messi finds Suárez on an impossibly angled, beautifully timed run in acres of space by the near post, but it’s well covered by the keeper and the striker can only find the side netting.
17 min: Luuk de Jong wins a free kick on a foul by Sergio Busquets. Schwaab takes it from about 25 yards but it’s parried away by Umtiti.
14 min: A crisp counter by PSV ends when Bergwijn misses the target. They can’t afford to waste those chances here.
11 min: Luis Suárez, who’s scored five goals in 10 meetings against PSV (with FC Groningen and then Ajax), tries to find Coutinho surging down the center of the area but the Brazilian’s header sails over the bar.
9 min: Barcelona are fast downfield after the missed chance and quickly win a corner. Dembélé takes it but nothing comes of it. Messi not being tightly marked early on, mystifyingly, but can’t get involved in Barça’s first real opportunity.
8 min: First chance of the match for PSV by the Uruguayan Gastón Pereiro, who rips a shot just over the crossbar.
6 min: PSV with the high for the opening five minutes but they’ve yet to dispossess the hosts even if they’ve stymied any organized attack.
4 min: A slow feeling-out spell early on with Barcelona keeping possession the middle third, probing for an opening.
1 min: Barcelona attacking from left to right in their familiar home kits with PSV going from right to left in all-white strips.
The players are on the pitch and we should be under ways any minute. A cracking environment as expected at the Camp Nou.
Fifteen minutes to kickoff, give or take. Here’s a look ahead at some of the other big fixtures this week.

Kickoff is just over a half hour from now.
We’ll be back with the team sheets shortly.
