Next March Captain Marvel is released, starring Brie Larson as the superhero many fans think will be key in the fight back against Thanos.
The film is set in the mid-1990s, but there’s just one issue: why has she not been mentioned in the franchise until now?
While this remains largely a mystery, a popular new theory has sprouted on Reddit claiming there’s a Captain Marvel Easter Egg in Captain America Civil War.
Reddit user Captaindeadpool172 wrote: “Just thought about it during the re-watch of Civil War, when Tony first meets Peter.”
They continued: “He shows videos of Spiderman saving people, but Peter says the videos are fake and Tony says, ‘like UFOs over Phoenix’ , that confirms the phoenix lights happened in the MCU universe.”

The Phoenix Lights were a series of reports of UFOs sighting in the skies over Arizona, Nevada and the Mexican state of Sonora.
The theorist added: “The Phoenix Lights happened during March 1997 and Captain Marvel is set in the 90s.
“What if the Phoenix Lights were Kree-Skrull war happening in the MCU universe?”
It would certainly be a nice nod to the Captain Marvel movie if this turns out to be true.
One fan was so impressed by the theory they commented: “Great prediction. After Captain Marvel comes out we’ll come back to this theory and praise you.
“And then we’ll praise me for making the prediction about praising you.”
Last week Ben Mendelsohn teased his villainous role in Captain Marvel.
Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel on his US chatshow, the Australian actor, 49, said: “They [Skrulls] will be a beautiful green, you’re gonna see some purple highlights in there.
“You know your way around comics well, right? So you know we can shapeshift, we can do whatever we want to do.”
Mendelssohn plays Talos, the leader of the Skull invasion of Earth, who is working undercover for S.H.I.E.L.D. as Nick Fury’s boss.
Captain Marvel will be released in UK in UK cinemas on March 8, 2019.
