
My daughter Ruth was just a one-year-old when we first went as a family.
We loved it,” he said. “The hotel just serves our needs so well and we’ve met so many people on Jersey over the years. We have many friends there now.”
The grandfather of three first took his family to the island 51 years ago, and they fell in love with the scenery.
He returned the following year with his first wife and Ruth and they stayed at the Biarritz.
The retired civil engineer, 83, from Barnsley has been making the 370- mile journey every year since.
Mr Platts added: “We have the same room every time we visit. It’s got a beautiful south-facing view over the sea. The beaches are beautiful. We’ve just got back from our 50th anniversary holiday at the hotel and we have already booked for next year.”
He now holidays at the hotel with his partner Beryl, Ruth, 52, her husband Shawn Rabon, 47, and their children Alice, 16, Joseph, 12, and Joel, 10.
There have been five managers at the hotel since they first booked in.
Duncan O’Neill, current manager, said: “I look forward to Bill and his family coming each year. They are an integral part of our summer.”
