WATFORD 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

23: Jesse Lingaard does really well to win a 50/50 and the visitors have kept the ball since. Manchester United just trying to take the sting out of the Hornets with a spell of possession. Excuse the pun. Actually don’t excuse it, I’m here all week…

20: Jose Mourinho’s side need to weather this Watford storm. The hosts keep asking questions with Hughes, Pereyra and Doucoure buzzing around and pressing like… a stamp? I don’t know what object presses that much…

17: What. A. Save. David de Gea keeps Manchester United on level terms with a terrific reflex save to deny Troy Deeney from just inside the area. There was a slight deflection off Chris Smalling that made it even trickier.

16: Marin Keown, who is commentating for BT Sport, is impressed to hear that Troy Deeney has lost a stone in weight. He follows his surprise by asking why he was ‘overweight’ in the first place. Can’t please some people, eh?

15: Paul Pogba makes himself a couple of yards by sending Will Hughes to the shops with a quick faint before seeing his effort saved by Ben Foster.

Will Hughes does the same up the other end of the field and David de Gea gets down low to gather. Two boxers trading blows here at Vicarage Road thus far.

12: Watford are looking to make this a physical battle. It did the trick against Tottenham before the international break, so why would you change?

Jesse Lingard looks to sweep a low cross into the penalty area but Fellaini is penalised for pushing Deeney in the back.

10: Fellaini vs Deeney sounds like a PPV fight that Eddie Hearn needs to book, but we’ve got it for free here this afternoon. The Belgium international has been tasked with marking Watford’s captain – elbows flying everywhere!

7: I won’t criticise Abdoulaye Doucoure for taking that audacious 30-yard half-volley on. It sat up perfectly for the midfielder, who sends it miles wide.

5: Oh I’ve just noticed that Mike Dean is our referee this afternoon. That should provide entertainment in one way or another.

Romelu Lukaku nearly brings down Paul Pogba’s clipped ball over the top but Ben Foster is promptly on his toes to make the save. Decent start from the visitors.

2: Martin Keown doesn’t think Sir Alex Ferguson would have liked to see Manchester United wearing pink. How he knows that I’m not quite sure…

WATFORD 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1: Jose Mourinho just has enough time to sign a few autographs for Watford fans before we get underway. Terrific atmosphere at Vicarage Road today – will the Hornets join Chelsea and Liverpool in the 100 percent club?

Javi Gracia also parades his Manager of the Month trophy for August. Well done, sir.

‘STRONG’

17:25: “Last season Manchester United were second in the table and for me it’s a very good team, a very good coach and it will be a very demanding game,” Gracia said.

“But playing at Vicarage Road we feel strong and we think we are able to beat all the teams. We are in a good moment, we are enjoying it, we know in the future things may change but this is a good moment for us.”

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Tom Williams: Rio Ferdinand has just said: “I see Manchester United coming here and causing an upset.” How are the mighty fallen.

Kully: Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingard… is it even worth watching?!

Mickey: How humiliating for United fans. This is how low Joe Mourinho has brought them. Even club legend Rio Ferdinand accepting that a result away at Watford would be ‘causing an upset’!

OPERATION KEEP POGBA QUIET…

17:20: Abdoulaye Doucoure knows subduing “show off” Paul Pogba is key to Watford claiming a fifth win of the season.

Doucoure has been an integral figure as the Hornets have won their first four Premier League games and played in the same France age group squads as Pogba.

“He was the same (person). He liked to show off. He’s a very nice guy, always very natural,” Doucoure said. “Today he’s in a different dimension. He’s a superstar now.

“I’ve known him for a long time. It’s always great to play against him. Of course I want to be better than him on the pitch and help my team as much as I can to try to win this battle in midfield. If Paul is a little bit less (influential) for his team, for sure it’s better for Watford.”

HORNETS TO STING?

17:15: After their unexpected – but fully deserved – win over Spurs, Watford find themselves up against another stern test when Manchester United come to Vicarage Road.

United boss Jose Mourinho has had plenty to say in the build-up, not least over his use of England forward Marcus Rashford. A calm approach, though, is what has served Javi Gracia’s squad so well this season.

While some Hornets fans might be allowing themselves to get just a bit carried away, you can bet it will be business as usual from the Spaniard as he goes in search of another perfect performance.

TEAM NEWS

17:10: Luke Shaw misses out on the matchday squad for Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Watford.

The full-back was taken off on a stretcher during England’s Nations League defeat to Spain last Saturday after suffering a concussion and was replaced in the visitors’ XI by former Hornet Ashley Young in the only change for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Watford, who have won their opening four league games of the season, unsurprising remained unchanged with ex-United goalkeeper Ben Foster looking to frustrate his old side.

WATFORD vs MANCHESTER UNITED

Watford have no fresh injury concerns. Winger Gerard Deulofeu has been out with a groin problem in recent weeks and suffered a minor injury on his return to training, but should be back soon. Midfielder Tom Cleverley (Achilles) is the Hornets’ only long-term absentee.

Marcus Rashford starts a three-match domestic ban after his red card against Burnley, but Luke Shaw could feature despite sustaining concussion last weekend. Ander Herrera (ankle) and Marouane Fellaini (back) are doubts, while Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot will step up their return from injury when the under-23s face Reading on Friday.
