PS4 update 6.00 patch notes: New PlayStation firmware update out now – here’s what it does

owners can download a brand new update today, as Sony finally releases version 6.00.

The brand new PlayStation update weighs in at just 430MB and will be available when you turn on your console.

Unfortunately, however, despite being a numbered release, system software 6.00 isn’t the transformative update fans were hoping for.

In fact, according to the patch notes, PS4 software update 6.00 improves system performance.

Hopefully PS4 owners will find out more about software update 6.00 in the coming days.

Firmware update 6.00 was expected to finally usher in PSN name changes.

Sony Interactive Entertainment America executive Shawn Layden teased the potential new feature after last year’s PSX event.

“The elves at the North Pole have been working on it,” Layden said.

“Let me put it this way: I hope we’ll see events occur so that you don’t have to ask me that question next PSX.”

Layden would later reveal that enabling PSN name changes were “more complex than you think”, which would explain the delay.

Sony revisited the idea earlier this year, asking fans whether PSN name changes were of interest.
