Barcelona transfer news: Ernesto Valverde eyes replacement for Jasper Cillessen

The La Liga champions already have Jasper Cillessen on the books.

However, the Dutch ace – who knows Zoet well from the Holland national team set-up – has been angling for an exit.

Cillessen has played second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen since moving to Spain from Ajax in 2016 for £13m.

After a meagre two La Liga appearances in two years, he’s expected to pack his bags sooner rather than later.

Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo claim that’s prompted Barca to plan for the future.

It’s suggested they view Zoet as a viable alternative to Ter Stegen following his solid record in the Eredivisie.

The 26-year-old has racked up 196 appearances for the Dutch heavyweights and is well respected in his homeland.

Having stormed to La Liga glory last season, Barca are impressing again this term.

Ernesto Valverde’s men battered minnows Huesca 8-2 in their last fixture.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both based a brace in the one-sided clash.

Speaking after the game, Valverde said: “This has just started.

”To be leaders on goal difference is of relative importance.

“There are teams like Valencia and Atletico Madrid who are behind, but this just started and there is a long way to go.

“We did a lot in attack and scored eight goals, which is a result of the play and chances generated,

“We turned it around [after the third-minute Huesca opener] with patience and by getting into their area.

“We were still cold when we conceded the first goal, while the second was unexpected.

“The result was still up in the air at the break, but in the second half we sorted it out and were more clinical.

“We didn’t give away that many chances, but the ones we did ended as goals.”

Barcelona face Real Sociedad in San Sebastian after the international break.

Sociedad have won just won match this season with three games played.
