Liverpool news: Reds respond to claims Jurgen Klopp has spoken to Adrien Rabiot

Liverpool enjoyed a strong summer transfer window with £65m goalkeeper Alisson headlining an impressive list of high-profile arrivals.

But they are not resting on their laurels, with widespread speculation suggesting Rabiot is now in the sights of Jurgen Klopp.

The France international is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain next summer so could sign an agreement with Liverpool in January.

The Reds have supposedly been in touch with Rabiot’s mother, who also acts as the midfielder’s representative, concerning a switch.

While it has been claimed Klopp has spoken to the 23-year-old on the phone to discuss linking up with his Liverpool squad.

However, the Liverpool Echo report Liverpool are “baffled” by the rumours.

Klopp is said to have had no talks with Rabiot in private or otherwise.

Klopp is thought to be happy with his midfield options, which he bolstered this summer.

Naby Keita and Fabinho joined a department already boasting Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Liverpool will get a closer look at Rabiot later this month.

The former Manchester City youth-teamer is poised to line up for PSG in their Champions League encounter with Klopp’s men.

Liverpool were drawn in Group C alongside the Ligue 1 giants, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted the set of Champions League fixtures his team will face is not ideal.

“To be 100 per cent honest, it was not that I had a group I wished for or whatever,” Klopp said.

“I expected a difficult group, we have a difficult group and that’s what the Champions League is all about.

“PSG are one of the most exciting teams in the world and I think their target is to win the Champions League, so that will be two interesting matches.

“Napoli, we beat them in pre-season but it goes without saying these two games will be completely a different challenge.

“I’ve been to Napoli with Dortmund, so I know what the atmosphere is like there.

“In fact, it’s where I got a suspension [for being sent off]. I can do better, obviously!

“Red Star, I watched them last night. They came through and it will be, again, a very, very intense atmosphere I am sure.

“But that’s how it is, it’s the group and I am fine with that. Now let’s go.”

Liverpool return to Premier League action a week on Saturday when they face Tottenham at Wembley.
