UPDATE: Fortnite’s High Stakes mode and 5.40 update has been pushed back until September 6, after Epic Games discovered a bug.
“Due to the discovery of a critical controller issue, we’ll be moving the release of v5.40 and High Stakes to Thursday September 6,” Epic announced.
ORIGINAL: Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of the High Stakes event.
After delaying update 5.40, Epic has finally revealed when the next patch and High Stakes event will be released.
And the good news is that don’t have long to wait, because the High Stakes event has a September 5 release date. If it’s anything like previous updates, the game should go offline at 9am UK time, and return with a new patch at around 11am.

The High Stakes event launches alongside the Getaway limited time mode (LTM).
In the Getaway, four safes are scattered around the map, each containing different jewels. Players must extract the contents of the safes and deposit them without dying.
The High Stakes event launches alongside a selection of challenges and rewards.
This includes a new spray, money trail and XP. There’s even a special crowbar harvesting tool for completing all three.
The Getaway LTM challenges in full…
• Pick up a jewel in five different matches of The Getaway – Cash trail
• Play 10 matches of The Getaway – 5,000 XP
• Deal 500 damage to jewel carrying opponents – Spray
• Complete all 3 challenges – Crowbar Harvesting Tool
Fans will also be able to purchase content as part of the High Stakes event.
This includes the Wild Card outfit, which launches with four different masks,.
The masks are based on the four different playing card suits, which means you can unlock heart, spades, diamond and club variants.
Other new items include the Cuff Case backbling and the Safe Cracker Glider.
New in-game items include the Grappler gun, which lets players quickly transport to new parts of the map.
