Captain Marvel FIRST pic today but NO trailer: Is THIS the release date in October?

Marvel finally revealed the first proper look at Larson in all her Captain Marvel glory today.

It followed a hugely hyped build-up over the last 24 hours after the actress promised something to “break the internet.”

The cover image of Entertainment Weekly realeased this afternoon shows the new Avenger in the iconic blue and red costume with both arms aflame with power.

It is thrilling stuff, but safe to say that fans were really hoping for a teaser or trailer which was expected in September. Might they have to wait now until this major Marvel event in October after Marvel made another new announcement today?

Earlier this year, Kevin Feige said that a Captain Marvel teaser or trailer was still a few months away.

The huge Avengers 4 trailer is expected in November, following the pattern set by the previous film.

With all the Ant-Man and the Wasp home entertainment release dates and marketing expected in October, it firmly pointed to September as Carol Danvers/Caprtain Marvel’s month.

Marvel surprised many by stepping away from Chicago Comic Con this year, but has instead announced a major presence at the rival event in New York. Will they really hold the Captain Marvel trailer back for that?

Today, Marvel started heavily promoting its presence at New York Comic Con.

The official Marvel website says: “Marvel Entertainment is bringing its trademark high-flying lineup to New York Comic Con once again!

“From Thursday, October 4 through Sunday, October 7, Marvel Entertainment will present the best and brightest from its creative team for panels, exclusive first-look videos, signings with Marvel’s biggest stars, and even more for every kind of Marvel fan!”

The phrase that will get fans most excited is “first-look videos.” Could this really mean a trailer?

Footage from Captain Marvel sets was already shown earlier this year at a major industry event. Reports from CinemaCon in Barcelona described behind-the-scenes clips and images. So, technically they wouldn’t be first-look any more.

Another option is Avengers 4 footage, but the trailer is firmly expected to drop in November, the same pattern used for Avengers Infinity War.

The listings Marvel has given so far for NYCC do not, however, include any movie descriptions, so perhaps there is still hope for a Captain Marvel trailer before that?
