Tropical Storm Gordon is now powering through the Mexican Gulf, developing from a tropical wave in less than 24 hours and with forecasters warning it could hit just north of New Orleans.
The social media video, posted by CNN, shows churning seas and strong winds howling through palm trees while residents attempt to continue their daily lives as the storm hits.
The weather system is yet to be officially named, but experts claimed it could become Tropical Storm Gordon by Tuesday morning and potentially develop into a hurricane.
Tropical Storm Gordon started out as an atmospheric disturbance in an area of low pressure, known as a tropical wave, which frequently become tropical storms.
There are worries that Gordon could become a hurricane as it passes over the southernmost tip of the US.
The latest advisory from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Hurricane Centre (NHC) warns of increased storm surges.

There are hurricane watches out for the Alabama-Florida border, which states that hurricane force winds of 74-95mph are possible potentially making Gordon a category 1 hurricane.
The Atlantic and Pacific oceans bordering the US are in the midst of hurricane season, where hurricane Lane and Chris have already made landfall.
Most recently, Hurricane Lane brushed past Hawaii last week, delivering a total 50 inches of rain and casting trees into the streets.
The National Hurricane Centre is also tracking Tropical Storm Olivia and Hurricane Norman in the eastern Pacific.
But northern cyclones are expected to move west, away from the continent.
AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said: “There is a non-tropical storm moving northwestward directly in front of Gordon that is causing some of the wind shears.
“So it is possible that if that non-tropical storm weakens and wind shear diminishes, Gordon could ramp up.”
