Man Utd are in ‘CRISIS’: Pundit makes claims about Liverpool, Woodward and Mourinho

Jose Mourinho had been installed as the bookies’ favourite to be the next boss sacked after back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham.

Mourinho eased the pressure with a 2-0 win over Burnley but Saunders has let rip in a scathing assessment of the side.

He says no player would get into Liverpool’s team and claimed Jose Mourinho wasn’t given money to spend by executive vice-chairman because the club are slowly rebuilding.

“They are really (in crisis),” Saunders told the Daily Star. “For a club like Manchester United and I’ve said this before – they’ve spent £711m since Alex Ferguson left.

“Van Gaal spent £250m, Moyesy spent £70m, Mourinho’s spent £311m.

“And arguably they haven’t got one player who would get in Liverpool’s team.

“(David) De Gea maybe, Paul Pogba maybe, but that’s not really good is it?

“And it was the other way around not so long ago where Liverpool didn’t have any players that would get in Man United’s team.

“So that’s how far I think it’s gone full circle but obviously the manager and the club, they don’t seem to be seeing eye to eye and it shows on the pitch.”

Mourinho gave Woodward a list of centre-backs he was desperate to sign this summer – only for their efforts to fall short.

Moves for Diego Godin, Jerome Boating, Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and Yerry Mina all flopped and Saunders thinks it’s because the club are ‘building’.

“It looks like Mr Woodward or the owners are not giving Mourinho the players he wanted because he’s building as well, they finished second last year,” Saunders added.

“It was a bit of a mess when he took over and it was a bit of a rebuilding job so gradually they’ve got better and better.

“But I play golf with some Man United fans and they’re not happy with the way the team plays, the style of football they play.

“Especially when they score a goal they sort of shut up shop and when they’ve been used to going out and getting three or four goals.”
