Typhoon Jebi path MAPPED: When will Jebi make landfall in Japan?

Jebi, which translates as swallow in Korean, is likely to be a Category 2 or 1 typhoon as it hits Japan on Tuesday.

Some parts of western Japan could get up to 11 inches (300 mm) of rain over the next 24 hours, according to the Japanese Meteorological Agency.

Wind speeds could reach up to 216 km/h after the storm makes landfall.

People are being warned the typhoon could be a risk to lives and property, according to Accuweather.

Adam Douty, Accuweather senior meteorologist said: “Damaging winds and coastal flooding may be the most significant impacts with the storm.”

Areas affected by the storm making landfall include southern and central Honshu, far eastern Shikoku on Tuesday local time.

Hokkaido will then face the storm’s wrath on Wednesday.

Residents coastal areas, including Ise Bay, are being advised to prepare for evacuation.

Strong winds may also reach Tokyo, but the heavy rainfall should steer clear of the capital.

The winds could result in windows being shattered in the many skyscrapers, meaning people could be hit by fall shards of glass.

The worst conditions in Tokyo are predicted to occur during Tuesday day time.

Those planning to fly through Haneda Airport in Tokyo on Tuesday may need to consider rescheduling.

On Wednesday, Jebi should continue to weaken before beginning to curve towards far southeastern Russia.

Japan has been hit by a bout of devastating weather this summer.

At least 200 people died in July from flooding from monsoons.

Typhoon Cimarron also pummelled western Japan with heavy rain just over a week ago, before it headed out to sea.
