Roxanne Pallett: Thousands sign petition for CBB star to be replaced in new acting role

The Celebrity Big Brother ex-housemate is set to appear alongside X Factor’s Rhydian Roberts in Cinderella at the Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield from December 1 to January 6.

But after the scandal that engulfed her time on the Channel 5 reality show, over 3,500 people at time of writing have signed a Change.org petition calling for her to be replaced.

Keeley Revell, who started it, wrote: “After the recent horrific display during her stint in celebrity big brother, I think it’s clear to see that this women is not the most desirable character to play the leading role in our local pantomime.

“I, for one, would boycott the event if she was still the leading role.”

Roxanne is at the centre of huge controversy after accusing housemate Ryan Thomas of “violently” punching her in the ribs multiple times.

Upon seeing the footage, viewers argued in their droves that Thomas was merely playfighting – and 11,000 complaints have been registered with Ofcom.

Pallett left the house voluntarily in the early hours of Saturday morning after hearing the live eviction crowd chanting “get Roxy out”, and today explained herself and apologised on Jeremy Vine’s new Channel 5 show.

“After it happened, I just felt like.. I don’t know to explain it.. my mind ran away with me. I am a sensitive person, only my family and friends can vouch for that,” she recalled.

“Everything in that house becomes so heightened – a look, a comment, an action – your insecurities are heightened, your sensitivity and all I can say, the only thing I can explain it with is in the moment it felt worse than it was. I can’t show you the feeling.

She added: “It was the word ‘deliberately’ that I regret. I massively apologise not just to Ryan, but to his family and friends and fans… to everyone that justifiably saw an overreaction to what wasn’t a malicious act.

“Because I am sensitive and I was emotional… he did apologise and he did say his ring caught me [but] it was the word ‘deliberate’ that I regret. There was no malicious intention in that and that’s what apologise for, because I shouldn’t have questioned his motivation. I got it wrong.”

On her own history with domestic abuse – something alluded to by Women‘s Aid’s statement over the weekend – she said: “I have been a victim of domestic violence… perhaps Women’s Aid were right that my reaction was a telltale sign that I have been in a situation like that.

“In my life I have become conditioned, I am oversensitive to certain things because of things like that. I am devastated that even one person feels I’ve discredited or undermined abuse because that was not my intention.”

When Vine highlighted how many people thought she was only doing the interview to salvage her career, she responded: “I chose to be here today, I was advised not to be. I’m not getting paid, I wasn’t told to do this interview.”

Roxanne will next be seen on Celebrity Big Brother tonight, to be interviewed by Emma Willis.

Chesterfield Theatres have not publicly commented on her involvement in their upcoming pantomime, and it’s unclear if any casting decisions rest with them or the show’s producers.
