Wanted: Divock Origi

Borussia Dortmund and Valencia were both interested in signing Liverpool striker Divock Origi during the transfer window.

That’s according to the player’s father Mike Okoth, who claims both clubs were unable to reach Liverpool’s ambitious valuation.

The Liverpool Echo claim the Reds wouldn’t budge on their £27million price-tag and Origi refused another season-long loan having spent time with Lille and Wolfsburg.

“Dortmund and Valencia showed good interest but they couldn’t match what Liverpool wanted and there was no way Divock was going out on loan again so he will have to fight for his place,” Okoth said.

“Three months in football is a long time and Divock is already doing well in training and the coach is happy. Let’s wait and see what will happen between now and the winter window.”

Reds in advanced talks

Liverpool are on the verge of signing Sunderland teenager Luca Stephenson, reports claim.

The 15-year-old midfielder is considered to be one of Sunderland’s brightest youth prospects.

And Jurgen Klopp and Co are eager to snap up his services after monitoring the youngster’s progress on Wearside.

Initial reports suggested that Liverpool would need to pay a £500,000 compensation fee.

But the Chronicle now say the League One club will have to settle for considerably less – around the £200,000 mark.

Stephenson has been compared with fellow Wearsider and former Black Cat Jordan Henderson, who arrived at Anfield for £16million in 2011.

Silverware will happen – Shearer

Liverpool will win a trophy this season, and it could well be the Premier League.

That’s the view of former striker and current pundit Alan Shearer, who has seen Liverpool win their opening four Premier League matches.

“We are told four games is too early to judge the title credentials of any side,” Shearer wrote for The Sun.

“But I disagree because Liverpool are already showing theirs. It is a hell of an ask to beat City to the title but I can see a really exciting two-horse race going to the wire.

“Let’s not forget, Liverpool showed at home last season and in the Champions League that they can take City on head-to-head and beat them if it comes down to a clash between the two.

“Klopp is yet to win anything with Liverpool, despite reaching three finals. The club itself has one League Cup to celebrate for all their efforts over the last 12 years.

“I believe they will change that this season as they head towards a new and exciting era. And with this team they certainly should.”
