Jose Mourinho sack: Man Utd boss STILL favourite for axe despite West Ham misery

Manchester United boss Mourinho is under pressure to get results at Old Trafford and challenge for their first title since 2013.

The manager was moved to evens to be the first Premier League boss of the season to lose his job after last week’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham.

And while United recovered to beat Burnley 2-0 on Sunday, Mourinho is still the bookies’ favourite for the chop.

That is according to Ladbrokes, who have Mourinho priced at 3/1 to be the first manager gone this term.

The Portuguese’s odds have lengthened, but not enough to move him off the top spot among the 20 bosses in the Premier League.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has overseen four straight defeats at the start of this campaign.

He has moved to 7/2 second favourite, behind boss Mourinho.

And it means former top pick for the axe – Southampton’s Mark Hughes – is now third at 6/1.

Southampton beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on Saturday to move 12th in the Premier League and three points off the relegation zone.

Rafa Benitez, whose Newcastle side are yet to win this season, is fourth favourite for the sack at 7/1, with Cardiff’s Neil Warnock at 8/1.

As for Mourinho, he now has two weeks to work on his squad during the international break, before their Champions League campaign begins in ernest with a trip to Young Boys on September 19.

United will also face Valencia and Juventus in the group stage, while they have a Carabao Cup third-round clash with Derby to look forward to later this month.
