WATFORD 0-0 TOTTENHAM

HT: It’s goalless at Vicarage Road with a well organised Watford holding Tottenham, who have seen more of the ball and the better chances. Not a classic.

Nathaniel: I wonder if this will end the rubbish about Jose Mourinho. Even more, I wonder whether anyone in the media will apologise to Mourinho for all the lies they’ve spun about him?

Sam: Love that celebration from Jose Mourinho on that second goal by Romelu Lukaku. We needed that. We know that and he knows that. Let’s go and not bottle it now.

Cal: Romelu Lukaku bags 2 Goals in the first half and doing what he does best, watch all the freaks that turned their backs on him come crawling back after he starts banging the goals.

BURNLEY 0-2 MANCHESTER UNITED

HT: So far so good for Manchester United, who have strolled to a two-goal advantage here at Turf Moor. Easy peasy for the visitors.

Romelu Lukaku has scored his first Premier League brace for Manchester United since his debut in the competition for the Red Devils (v West Ham in August 2017).

BURNLEY 0-2 MANCHESTER UNITED | LUKAKU

44: That, my friends, is some shambolic defending from Burnley and Jose Mourinho couldn’t hide his relief.

The Clarets fail to clear a speculative Jesse Lingard cross and the ball falls kindly for Romelu Lukaku to grab his second of the afternoon.

Jose Mourinho’s side in cruise control against a very lacklustre Burnley.

45: McNeil goes for goal from range, however his strike is deflected by Lindelof into the hands of De Gea. Burnley look leggy. The kind of leggy that only the Europa League can inflict.

43: Alexis Sanchez fancies a crack from range but he’s struck that straight at James Tarkowski, who I should imagine will have himself a sizeable bruise to nurse later.

41: Fair play to the travelling Manchester United fans. They haven’t been silent for a single minute here at Turf Moor.

38: Sean Dyche said that draw with Olympiacos helped restore some of Burnley’s identity. Well, it’s lost again. There’s no pressure on the ball and Paul Pogba and Co are being allowed to dictate play as and when they please.

35: Manchester United have won each of their last 23 Premier League matches in which they’ve scored the opening goal.

34: How much space?! Burnley just stand off Alexis Sanchez and allow him to waltz forward. He tees up Romelu Lukaku but Joe Hart does well to stay big and make the save.

31: Apparently Sean Dyche is complaining to the fourth official that Chris Wood is being hacked down every time he touches the ball.

30: Jose Mourinho didn’t go overboard with his celebration. he stayed seated and clenched both fists. He wants this win badly.

BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED | LUKAKU

27: Romelu Lukaku is on the scoresheet as Manchester United take the lead!

It’s a nicely worked opener with virtually every Manchester United player having a touch. Luka Shaw lays it off for Alexis Sanchez, who clips a teasing cross over to Romelu Lukaku to slam home the header.

Advantage Manchester United.

24: Burnley will want to keep an eye on Jesse Lingard today. The England international keeps popping up in useful positions with nobody tracking his runs.

21: There’s a bit of confusion between De Gea and Lindelof as a cross is drifted in from Taylor, but the goalkeeper gets enough on it. Alexis concedes a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Three Burnley players are standing over it… wide. McNeil took it but sent it high, wide and straight out of play.

18: Burnley are showing a little more going forward now with Chris Wood looking to get in behind Smalling and Lindelof. Bardsley gets forward from right-back but his cross is cleared.

15: We’ve got a pause in play with Bardsley down holding his head. Alexis Sanchez knocked the poor chap over during a 50/50 challenge. He’s fine to continue but the Chilean is booked.

13: Away fans are belting out Jose Mourinho’s name. They are fully behind the Portuguese with Ed Woodward taking the brunt of frustration.

10: Chance! James Tarkowski is drawn into action. It’s astonishingly simple for Valencia to prowl down the right flank and drill a low cross that Lingard strikes first-time. Blocked.

8: David de Gea anticipates a long ball forward from 18-year-old academy product Dwight McNeil, who was signed from Manchester United two years ago. Let’s see if he can haunt his former club.

5: Burnley are all over the place at the back. That’s not a sentence you hear often when talking about Sean Dyche’s side. They fail to clear a lofted cross before Luke Shaw stings Joe Hart’s palms with a low shot. That’s Luke Shaw of England’s senior squad I’m talking about…

3: Manchester United are straight on the front-foot, and should arguably be ahead. Lukaku holds the ball up nicely and brings the onrushing Alexis Sanchez into play. He rolls it over to Jesse Lingard, who curls it inches wide.

2: I should mention that we had a perfectly-observed minute’s silence to remember Jimmy McIlroy, who died last month. All that could be heard was a plane with the message ‘Ed Woodward: A specialist in failure’ flying above the stadium.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1: And we’re underway folks. Turf Moor isn’t exactly my idea of an easy game to get things back on track. Jose Mourinho will probably be thinking the same.

Don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated with the score over at Vicarage Road.

BANNER…

15:59: This isn’t Arsenal, lads…

Manchester United fans have flown a plane over Burnley’s Turf Moor stadium bearing a damning message for Ed Woodward in the wake of the Red Devils’ slow summer transfer window.

I’m sure there will be some significant fallout from this later, but let’s focus on the action for now.

Jack: Time for Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard to repay Jose Mourinho’s unwavering faith. Neither have done anything in a Manchester United shirt for some time now.

Desmond: So Jose Mourinho aptly goes with Marouane Fellaini to save his job! You can’t make this stuff up!

Masterclass waiting to happen. Saved Louis Van Gaal’s job on numerous occasions, and now it’s time to save Jose Mourinho’s. Desperate times call for desperate measures. When the going gets tough, Marouane Fellaini gets going.

All hopes rest on Marouane Fellaini’s shoulders. That’s not a pleasant situation…

MUST. HALT. SLIDE.

15:50: A third straight defeat in his side’s first four matches would have appeared implausible, but that is a prospect Jose Mourinho’s troubled side face at Burnley today.

United could already be staring at a nine-point gap between them and the Premier League leaders when they head to Turf Moor and another poor result will drive speculation over the ‘Special One’s’ future into fever pitch.

BURNLEY vs MANCHESTER UNITED

Burnley are set to be without Johann Berg Gudmundsson again as a hamstring injury suffered at Fulham forced him to miss the Europa League clash with Olympiakos, with teenager Dwight McNeil taking his place. Sean Dyche made seven changes for that match and Chris Wood, Jack Cork, James Tarkowski and Joe Hart are set to return. Ben Gibson is available after being suspended for the European match.

Manchester United will be without injured duo Sergio Romero and Diogo Dalot. The latter is recovering from a knee operation and Romero has been out with his own knee problem but both were expected to face Stoke in and under-23s match on Friday night. Marcos Rojo is edging closer to a first-team return but Phil Jones will miss the trip.
