It’s been a busy few months for Epic Games, who have seen their most popular product launch on one of the biggest platforms in the world.
But it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the release of Fortnite Mobile on Android.
Google recently published a report which confirmed a bug in the new game port, which is currently unavailable to download through the Play Store.
This problem has been fixed by Epic Games, who were apparently left less than pleased with the way in which Google revealed the news.
The “Fortnite Installer downloads are vulnerable to hijacking” report shows that it has now been fixed, which appeared to take Epic Games just two days to do.
Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney shared his thoughts on the subject earlier this month, writing on Twitter: “Android is an open platform. We released software for it. When Google identified a security flaw, we worked around the clock (literally) to fix it and release an update.
“The only irresponsible thing here is Google’s rapid public release of technical details.
“We asked Google to hold the disclosure until the update was more widely installed. They refused, creating an unnecessary risk for Android users in order to score cheap PR points.”
These new reports probably haven’t put off Fortnite fans downloading and installing the game on their mobile devices.
And there’s one very exciting piece of news that might help boost the amount of Fortnite players on mobile even further.
It has now been confirmed that improved controller support is coming to the Android platform.
This is being done through Google improving the button mapping used with the Xbox One controller, a device that’s already very popular among PC players.
According to recent reports, a button mapping bug was identified when Bluetooth was first incorporated.
The good news for fans is that a Google engineer has apparently marked the problem as fixed in Android Pie, the new build of the major mobile platform.
This could prove a massive boost for Fortnite on Android, as it will mean being able to skip the touchscreen controls that can slow players down.
It should be noted that fans will have to wait until Fortnite adds support for Bluetooth controllers on Android.
Luckily, it does confirm in the official Epic Games FAQ that Bluetooth support is planned, and billed as “coming later.”
Unfortunately, there is no set release window, so fans will need to keep checking back with the development team for further updates.
As mentioned above, with the Xbox controller bug removed through Android Pie, players will be able to use the controller properly with Fortnite, with Pie already known to include some notable upgrades.
Epic Games put together an exclusive deal with Samsung to help launch some of their new products.
It was revealed earlier this month that by purchasing a new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Tab S4, buyers would also unlock an exclusive new skin.
The Fortnite Galaxy skin is expected to remain pretty rare in-game, although Android mobile gamers appear to be going to great lengths to unlock it.
This has led to some players going to Samsung outlets and downloading Fortnite on one of the new devices.
Logging into the game and playing three matches on one of the new Samsung devices means you unlock the new Galaxy skin.
However, Samsung is onto the new strategy and has started putting up warning signs not to do it.
Of course, the company don’t want to see players doing all this to grab an exclusive skin, especially when it can be such a personal data risk.
Leaving any information on a demo phone found in a store could prove to be massively problematic and is something Samsung is cracking down on.
However, network restrictions at stores are being bypassed using other means, which is something being talked about online.
