X Factor 2018: Guess which ex contestant is working with NILE RODGERS on new music?

It’s Rebecca Ferguson, the bestselling runner-up of the 2010 season.

Ferguson has achieved an incredible career since graduating from the ITV show; with all four of her albums hitting the UK Top 10.

Her debut, Heaven, went double-platinum and remains the fastest-selling debut album by a solo artist this decade.

She said on Loose Women: “People kept suggesting me to [Rodgers] for a long time, and then by chance I was having a meeting at Abbey Road studios and he needed some vocals on one of his albums.

“I was like, ‘I’m here!’, and then I ended up popping in the booth. And then from there, he said he wanted to produce my album.”

She teased of the new music: “It’s really positive and upbeat and happy. I needed that.

“I’m very proud of my other albums but I was in a bit of a down place – I now feel like I’m writing about the same things but with more positivity.”

Ferguson’s last album was 2016’s Superwoman, which hit No7 in the UK and saw her performing on Strictly Come Dancing.

She tweeted earlier this month: “I have been recording at @AbbeyRoad and the start of my album is amazing! nice work with @FrancMoody and @nilerodgers.”

The star later added: “Another great day of recording I’m so happy with the start of this album.”

Rodgers is one of the most respected musicians of all time; having worked with the likes of Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Madonna, David Bowie, George Michael, Duran Duran and Kylie Minogue, to name a few.

The X Factor will return this weekend for its latest season; Robbie Williams, Ayda Williams and Louis Tomlinson joining Simon Cowell on the panel.

Last year’s winners Rak-Su were the second ever group to emerge victorious; the first since Little Mix back in 2011.

Two winners of the show have parted ways with their record labels this year alone: Matt Terry and Louisa Johnson have both left the deals they signed when they were crowned champions.

James Arthur, Tomlinson, Grace Davies, Little Mix and Rak-Su are the only X Factor UK stars currently listed on Syco’s roster. Olly Murs continues to record with RCA.

The X Factor returns Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
