Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri sent warning as Blues star reveals transfer interest

Zappacosta is yet to feature this season having been an unused in each of Chelsea’s three Premier League games so far.

Maurizio Sarri has gone with Cesar Azpilicueta in the Chelsea back-line where Zappacosta could line up.

The Italian full-back joined the Blues from Torino last summer though made just 12 top flight starts under Antonio Conte.

Sarri replaced Conte in the summer and has preferred Azpilicueta over Zappacosta with Chelsea earning maximum points so far.

And the 26-year-old could leave the Blues in January if he doesn’t feature prominently over the next few months.

“Could I return to Italy? Yes, Inter Milan had been after me,” Zappacosta said.

“My agent Alessandro Lucci had told me about their interest, although I’ve always remained focused on Chelsea.

“Could I return (to Inter) in January? I have three more years on my contract here and I only want to think about doing well with Chelsea.

“There’s a lot of competition here, but I want to win a place in the 11.

“After that, it’s clear that if I didn’t find much room, I don’t think any player would like that.”

Zappacosta may have to bide his time though with Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso preferred in the full-back roles.

But Jamie Redknapp thinks the pair are struggling, potentially leaving a door open for Zappacosta.

“There are positives going forward but I think defensively they are adjusting between playing a back three and a back four,” the former Liverpool midfielder said while analysing Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

“You can see here at times (Antonio) Rudiger has to go out as a right-back, the ball then gets played down the side.

“I think Azpilicueta and Alonso at the back post have had a lot of problems adjusting.

“Certainly Alonso who I think is predominantly a wing-back.”
