Man Utd news: Zidane backed to replace Mourinho, Pogba to Barca hope, Woodward slammed

Zidane to Man Utd backed

Zinedine Zidane would be an ‘ideal’ candidate to take over at Manchester United if Jose Mourinho was sacked, ex-Red Devils ace Lee Sharpe claims.

“I think Zidane would be the ideal candidate,” Sharpe told talkSPORT.

“He’s played at the highest level, managed at the highest level and has been successful at both.

“He’s a big enough name who could cope with the pressure and the questions asked of managing a club of that size so I think he would be ideal.”

Pogba to Barcelona update

Manchester United star Paul Pogba is wanted by Barcelona – who expect the prospective transfer to be complicated further following comments made by Mino Raiola, according to Spanish claims.

Catalan newspaper Sport say that, in the wake of his comments, the Catalan giants remain hopeful of a deal.

They feel the transfer will become even trickier to pull off, with United adamant he is not for sale.

And Sport add Barcelona foresee the situation ‘turning into a soap opera’ with the La Liga transfer window not shutting until August 31.

Ince slams Mourinho and Woodward

Manchester United hero Paul Ince has slammed his old club, claiming they’re a laughing stock.

“Other clubs and fans are having a field day at the minute, seeing what is happening at Man United. They’re becoming a laughing stock and falling behind,” Ince wrote in an exclusive column for Paddy Power News.

“Everything at Man United from top to bottom is in turmoil and it shows.

“Should Mourinho leave? No. Should Man United as a club get their house in order? Absolutely.

“That’s the whole lot, from the top down, Ed Woodward, Jose Mourinho, Paul Pogba, everything is a total mess.

“I can see now that fans are turning against Jose Mourinho and I can understand why.

“When you see Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham – they’re all playing the kind of football you expect from a Manchester United side.

“He is a proven manager but the style he’s playing at United doesn’t suit the club and never will.”
