Barcelona expect Man Utd deal to be tougher after Mino Raiola’s Paul Pogba comments

Manchester United are a club in crisis with Pogba emerging as a top Barcelona transfer target amid uncertainty over his Old Trafford future.

Though he was made captain for recent Premier League clashes with Leicester and Brighton, all does not appear to be well behind the scenes.

Manchester United boss Jose Murinho has clashed repeatedly with Pogba over the last few months, despite trying to defuse talk of a rift when speaking on Friday.

However, the France international was subject to much criticism after his poor Brighton showing, with Paul Scholes leading the charge.

The United legend blasted Pogba, labelling him as ‘too inconsistent’ after he toiled at the Amex Stadium.

And that has prompted a furious backlash from super-agent Raiola, who said: “Some people need to talk for fear of being forgotten. Paul Scholes wouldn’t recognize a leader if he was in front of Sir Winston Churchill.

“Paul Scholes should become sports director and advise Woodward to sell Pogba. Would be sleepless nights to find Pogba a new club.”

Raiola has been accused of driving Barcelona’s interest in Pogba.

But Catalan newspaper Sport say that, in the wake of his comments, the Catalan giants remain hopeful of a deal.

They feel the transfer will become even trickier to pull off, with United adamant he is not for sale.

And Sport add Barcelona foresee the situation ‘turning into a soap opera’ with the La Liga transfer window not shutting until August 31.

United are reluctant to let Pogba go.

They invested a massive £89million into the player two years ago, negotiating with Raiola before landing him from Juventus in a massive £89million deal.

And, given Pogba’s sheer marketability, they deem him too important an asset to lose.

Whatever happens with United and Barcelona, the Red Devils are facing a tricky season ahead.

They already trail Manchester City after just two games.

And, given the way Pep Guardiola’s side have already dismantled Arsenal and Huddersfield, as well as Chelsea in the Community Shield, the Premier League title looks likelier to end up at the Etihad than Old Trafford.
