Man Utd news: Paul Pogba admits fans have every right to feel ‘mad’ after Brighton match

captain even held his own hand up and admitted he did not do well enough, saying this was a wake-up call to players who need to have more pride in wearing the famous shirt.

“I am someone very honest and we always play for the shirt and play for them and this is not the result that we wanted and not the result that they wanted,” said Pogba. “They should be very mad today. We are very mad, everybody is very mad.

“They had more hunger than us. I put myself first, that my attitude wasn’t right enough. We made mistakes we shouldn’t make.

“The next game we want to change this and be happy at the end of the game. We want to see smiles on our faces and smiles on their faces, we want them to have a nice weekend and enjoy the day after the game.

“We don’t want to lose two games in a row so we’re going to have to get ready for Tottenham and play much, much better.

“We’re not here just to play games, to be in the Premier League. We are Manchester United and we want to win trophies. That’s the mentality and the culture of the club.

“We didn’t do it today and we are very disappointed because we are the guys that should have the good and right attitude. We shouldn’t do what we did.

“Today was a bad performance from all of us and it’s wrong we lose points today. We have to wake up for the next game and definitely not play like we did.”

Manager was visibly frustrated on the touchline but after criticising Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Pogba in the past, he was determined to keep his powder dry in public.

“When I speak about individual performances, and when I am critical with my players, you just don’t accept it, so please do not ask me to go in this direction because it is not good for me,” he said. “I was not expecting such obviously big mistakes – because we are not speaking about small mistakes.

“But we made big mistakes and we were punished.”

Brighton manager Chris Hughton said: “I would like to think people will look at it as us being good rather than Manchester United being poor.

“We were very good today. A victory we deserved. There’s not a player that didn’t play well. To get that result with the quality they have you have to put in a good performance.”
