Vladimir Putin net worth: How much does Putin earn? What is his salary?

Ms Kneissi has been heavily criticised for inviting Putin, accused of undermining EU foreign policy.

However, Putin ignored the controversy and even danced with the bride at the reception.

He arrived with a bunch of flowers and was accompanied by a troupe of Cossack singers who performed for the guests.

Putin then headed over to Germany, where he held informal talks with Angela Merkel for three hours at Meseberg castle, north of Berlin.

What is Putin’s net worth?

On paper, Putin earns a fairly modest salary, but there have long been questions about whether he has a hidden wealth.

Earlier this year, CNN reported he submitted an official income declaration ahead that shows he owns an 800-square foot apartment in St. Petersburg, along with two Soviet-era cars and an off-road truck.

The declaration states he has made 38.5 million rubles (£450,000) over the past six years (£75,000 per year) from his presidential salary, military pension and interest on his savings.

He declared another £190,000 spread across 13 different bank accounts.

Jason Bush, a senior analyst at Eurasia Group, said: “Those figures will look very small, given his position, but they are consistent with his previous returns.”

But Putin’s critics have accused him of accumulating a far greater wealth, which remains hidden because it’s held on paper by family members and close associates.

Mr Bush said: “It has been impossible for anybody who has investigated this to come up with any hard proof.

“Putin is very cautious and he is a great expert at hiding things, if the rumours are true.”

A spokesman for Putin has repeatedly rejected the suggestions of a hidden fortune.

But critics remain adamant, and they’ve had a few hints at what might be lurking beneath.

Bill Browder, an investor in Russia who became a fierce critic of Putin after he was expelled from the country, estimated the fortune at $200 billion (£150bn) in testimony before the US Senate.

Mr Browder, an anti-corruption campaigner told CNN: “Putin’s visible watch collection is worth multiples of his official salary.

“The wealth came as a result of extortion and massive theft from state funds.”

Putin’s spokespeople have firmly denied all allegation made by Mr Browder.

A 2012 report by Russian opposition leaders (including Boris Nemtsov who was shot and killed in 2015) alleged that Putin is the ultimate beneficiary of assets held by wealthy individuals in his inner circle.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has alleged that people around Putin shield his real wealth from public view.

The newspaper Novaya Gazeta and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project have reached similar conclusions.
