Avengers: Will there be an ALL FEMALE Avengers starring Evangeline Lily?

New rumours circulating around the Avengers are not what you expect.

While some are busy speculating about the Avengers 4 title or how Captain Marvel will help resurrect her fallen comrades, others have turned to a fresher idea.

Ant-Man director Peyton Reed is in the latter camp.

Will there be an all-female Avengers movie starring Evangeline Lily?

If Peyton Reed has his way about it, the answer could be yes.

Remaking movies with a female cast, or adding sequels and prequels starring all women, has become a trend lately.

From Ocean’s 8 starring Sandra Bullock to the all-female remake of Ghost Busters, women have been taking the cinema by storm.

But Marvel is a bit behind the times.

Ant-Man and the Wasp was the first Marvel movie to feature the female superhero’s name in its title.

Marvel’s female centred stories are set to ramp up, with Captain Marvel getting her own solo film in March.

But In an interview with Huffington Post, Reed said:

“I’d like her [The Wasp] running things.

“I’d like to see her as the head of the all-female Avengers. I know Evangeline sort of said … maybe that would be Captain Marvel because she does have the word ‘captain’ in her name.”

He added: “But I think Hope van Dyne is a very decisive leader and a tactician, in addition to being a brilliant scientist.

“So she checks a lot of boxes in terms of who’s going to be running the Avengers, theoretically.”

Despite her reticence to do a standalone Wasp movie, Evangeline Lily is here for an all-female Avengers spin-off.

The actress, who has starred in both Ant-Man movies and is expected to feature in the upcoming Avengers 4, is a huge proponent of her team.

“I don’t love the idea of breaking them [Ant-Man and The Wasp] up — except if there was an all-female ‘Avengers’ film.”

“Then I’m in.”

Marvel has so many characters to choose from, the chance for a female-fronted Avengers movies seems low on the list of priorities, despite a clear desire for more strong female superheroes.

The support of two people – albeit, two important people to the Marvel Cinematic Universe – does not a movie make, but who knows what the future holds.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is now playing in cinemas.

Avengers 4 is in cinemas April 26, 2019.
