Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid LIVE: Team news confirmed; UEFA Super Cup final updates

Champions League holders Real Madrid play Europa League winners Atletico Madrid in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup.

Real Madrid have not yet signed a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 450 goals in 438 games for the club.

But new coach Julen Lopetegui looks set to make Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio his leading forwards this campaign.

New signing Thibaut Courtois will not be involved as he has not been registered with UEFA to play in the competition.

Diego Simeone is suspended from the touchline for the match after being sent off in the Europa League semi-final against Arsenal.

THE STARTING XI…

18:40: Ok folks, this is reported to be the Real Madrid line-up for tonight’s clash. If correct, there will be no debut for Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid XI: Keylor, Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Isco, Bale, Benzema, Asensio.

We should have official confirmation through shortly.

REAL ARRIVE…

18:35: As you can see from the video above – Real Madrid have arrived at the Lillekula Stadium in Tallinn.

Everyone is looking rather dapper in suits, shirts and ties but the matching trainers leave me feeling a little bit uneasy.

Gareth Bale was one of the first off the team bus, shortly followed by summer signing Thibaut Courtois, who was expected to make his debut for his new club following his arrival from Chelsea.

I’ll have more on Mr Courtois in a few moments.

HOLA…

18:30: I’ve exhausted all my Spanish with “Hola,” so I’ll just welcome you to our LIVE coverage of tonight’s UEFA Super Cup final in English.

What was I doing in GCSE Spanish for two years?!

Anyway, thanks for joining us to follow Real Madrid’s showdown with fierce rivals Atletico Madrid in Tallinn.

There are more superstars than you can shake a stick at between tonight’s squads but the absence of one man is the biggest talking point.

Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s departure from Real Madrid to Serie A giants Juventus deprives Madrid of one of their best players. Oh, and 451 goals in all competitions…

How will they cope against a re-energised Atleti? We’re about to find out! Let’s get going!

REAL MADRID vs ATLETICO MADRID

Real boss Julen Lopetegui appears to have a full squad to chose from apart from Luka Modric.

The Croatian was the last player to return to training after being given an extended break following his starring role at the World Cup this summer.

Atleti’s World Cup-winning pair of Antoine Griezmann and Lucas Hernandez only returned to training last Monday but featured in the second half of Saturday’s pre-season friendly with Inter.

A role from the bench would seem more likely but new signing Thomas Lemar in line to start.

VENUE

The match takes place at Lillekula Stadium in Tallinn, Estonia, and will be refereed by Szymon Marciniak.

ODDS

Real Madrid are slight favourites to win the clash at 6/4 with their opponents available at 2/1.

A draw in 90 minutes can be backed at 21/10.
