President Trump’s campaign claim the former White House employee broke a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) signed in 2016, barring Ms Manigault-Newman from revealing details from private discussions held with the President.
An official confirmed the action to Newsweek, stating: “Donald J Trump for President, Inc. has filed an arbitration against Omarosa Manigault-Newman, with the American Arbitration Association in New York City, for breach of her 2016 confidentiality agreement with the Trump Campaign.
“President Trump is well known for giving people opportunities to advance their careers and lives over the decades, but wrong is wrong, and a direct violation of an agreement must be addressed and the violator must be held accountable.”
Another ally to the President said: “The campaign is holding her accountable for her 2016 non-disclosure.”
Arbitration is a process by which two or more parties can resolve a dispute and reach a legally-binding agreement, often by way of a neutral third-party.

The Washington Examiner reported that the Trump campaign may seek “millions of dollars in retaliation” due to Ms Manigault-Newman’s “egregious” violation of her NDA.
The former White House official nevertheless maintains that she did not sign an NDA before assuming the role of the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison.
Among the accusations fired at President Trump within Ms Manigault-Newman’s new book, Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House, the former White House employee claimed the President used racially sensitive expletives on numerous occasions.
She also released a series of secretly-recorded tapes from within the White House this week, allegedly revealing discussions she held with President Trump and Chief of Staff General John F. Kelly.
The audio tapes, which were released on NBC’s Today show on Monday, include an alleged phone call between herself and President Trump directly following her December 2017 sacking, in which the President expressed surprise that she had been fired.
Within the recording, which is yet to be verified, Ms Newman is heard saying: “General Kelly – General Kelly came to me and said that you guys wanted me to leave.”
President Trump is heard responding: “No, nobody even told me about it.
“You know they run a big operation, but I didn’t know it. I didn’t know that. Goddamn it. I don’t love you leaving at all.”
Ms Manigault-Newman consequently raised concerns that President Trump does “not know what is happening” in the White House, and stated this “should be alarming to any American”.
President Trump nevertheless hit back at his former aide and accused her of “begging” for her job and causing problems within the administration.
Writing on Twitter, he said: “Wacky Omarosa, who got fired three times on the Apprentice, now got fired for the last time. She never made it, never will.
“She begged me for a job, tears in her eyes, I said OK.
“People in the White House hated her. She was vicious, but not smart. I would rarely see her but heard really bad things.”
The US leader accused Ms Manigault Newman of “constantly missing meetings” and being “nothing but problems” during her short tenure in the US administration.
He also praised General Kelly for firing the former White House aide, stating: “When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out.
“Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!”
