Fortnite season 6 is creeping up quickly with the release date for the brand new Battle Pass a matter of weeks away.
Right now in Fortnite season 5 there is a countdown running showing how much time is left for fans to play through the current Battle Pass.
At the moment the countdown in the Battle Pass says that Fortnite season 5 will have an end date of Monday September 17 2018.
With past season crossovers, the brand new Battle Pass began the day after the final day of the previous Fortnite season.
So that could mean that Fortnite season 6 will have a release date of Tuesday September 18 2018.
Alternatively, if Fortnite season 6 gets delayed like previous season updates then it could launch on Thursday September 20.
And as the Fortnite season 6 launch draws near the first big event leading up to it looks to have been all but confirmed.
The Fortnite Battle Royale Leaks Twitter account has said the in-game rifts will be closing up soon.
An update released over the weekend has seen the rift which first appeared after the Fortnite season 4 rocket launch begin to close.
Small sections have vanished each day and by August 21 it will have disappeared, according to a post by the Fortnite Battle Royale Leaks Twitter.
What happens once the rift closes is anybody’s guess, but it wouldn’t be a surprise for Epic to start dropping Fortnite season 6 clues soon afterwards.
In the lead up to Fortnite season 4 from season 3, and the lead up to season 5 from season 4, Epic Games dropped clues about what was coming up.
The big Fortnite season 4 lead up event was the meteor strike, while the event leading up to season 5 was the rocket launch.
Fortnite fans responded to the Fortnite Battle Royale Leaks Twitter post about the rift shrinking to speculate what could happen once it closes up.
One fan tweeted: “Is the rocket ever coming back? If, yes where it will hit? Plus the trucks at dusty diviot where it is going?”
Another posted: “So why exactly is the rift disappearing? Is there going to be a new biome or at least a new location because of the rift?”
One added: “As you can see in the week 6 loading screen, the rift is practically gone.
“Drift now is unable to return to where he came from, so he is going to do something fishy to get back to his world, bringing us to that nice plot twist and road trip skin”.
And one wrote: “I feel like the day when the crack shrinks a crack in sky just shows up and rocket bursted out of crack it was it was aiming for dusty but it hits dusty but dusty reverses back to dusty depot and factory’s come back and the crack makes a giant boom sound in sky then gone”.
